Why is sacrifice of midnight so rare?
" "Dropping like crazy" is maybe saying to much. I would say that on average it is (according to my own estiates and also lookign at what others had published): * 1 out of 5 runs has an corrupted area. * 1 out of 20 drops is midnight (probably lower) So I would say you have to do 100 runs on average to get one midnight. |

it's more like, vessel has 50% chance to drop a fragment
and there is 1/15 or 1/20 or so chance that a fragment is a midnight so something like 1/30 - 1/40 for a midnight fragment i think this is somewhat accurate. i usually find a midnight for every 3 - 4 columns of fragments in my inventory. sometimes it's 2, but that seems to be the exception rather than the norm. from my experience, noon is about 2-4 times more common than midnight and that's quite an accurate estimate, imho.
last time i farmed i couldnt drop a midnight in over 2 hours. was very annoyed at my bad luck, since i've done at least 80 CAs. and it usually drops 1-2 in that span of time. but whats is good about after doing 80+ atziris i found 4 hopes and 2 ignorances which means i'm still quite lucky. "How come only evil forces were released?" - "Because there are no good forces." "So, then. You don't believe that there is a God." - "There was a god." "Well, then. Where is he now?" - "I killed him," said Kane. Last edited by k4n3#0976 on May 21, 2014, 9:24:22 AM

In the end it's all RNG so you can in theory drop 10 - 20 - 30 midnights in a row if you have been kissed by RNGsus while you were sleeping and if RNGsatan visited you than you can have 200 runs without a midnight drop.
I posted this video in my thread, basicly opening 100 vaal vesels and it's a great example. Got 2 midnights shortly after each other, than nothing for a long time and 3 midnights at the end shortly after each other again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-vjzNCZZ_s When I said that they are droping like crazy I've been comparing the drop rate now with how it was before, I've been really lucky to find 2 midnights in a full day of Sarns farming. Spawn rate of corrupted areas has been increased too, before you could have had 10 city of sarns runs without corrupted area easily (it's possible even now but highly unlikely to happen). kiwi nation

I was frustrated by this as well, having only gotten 3 midnights in total after a good amount of corrupted areas. However, let's think about it another way, if midnights dropped all the time, it trivializes the Atziri fight since people would easily be able to access it many times. I have tried the apex twice and though it is hard I do feel that I'm close. Last time I tried I managed to kill 2 of the 3 bosses before my frame rate got too low from the corpses in the room. If I had a couple more tries I'm sure sooner or later I'll be sufficiently well-practiced to defeat Atziri.
Atziri should be hard to get to so that you treasure each time you go into the apex and try to learn as much as you can to better prepare yourself for the next attempt. It should be something great that you get to experience once in a while. It's like candy (or cake, or whatever fits the analogy), great once in a while, but if you get to have it all the time it'll quickly get old. Also, if the apex was more accessible, then there'd be a lot more Atziri uniques in the market and devs may remove the guaranteed drop to balance it out. As a solo, self-found player I couldn't care less about the economy but I would not be pleased if the guaranteed drop was removed to balance out an economy I care little for. What I don't like is how I have to deliberately go out of my way to farm the pieces and often to little reward otherwise. If the vaal vessel doesn't drop a fragment, all it drops is a vaal gem and I now have so much of them I don't even bother picking them up anymore. Vaal vessels need to be more rewarding when they aren't drop fragments. I believe I saw Chris saying in a thread that they'd be introducing gem sinks (vaal orb fragments please!) so I'm definitely looking forward to that! |
