Shadow Starter Gems revamp please for racing.
" Shadow is strong in burst races because the first 9 nodes it gets are all damage nodes. Paired with fire trap and a +1 fire wand (literally the best combo you can have at the start) its easy and a joke to hit level 10. Burst races =/= actual racing and are just considered fun racing. As for spark, its great single target dps since the lightning balls can shot gun and you can kill hailrake and brutus really fast. It would be really beneficial on shadow since you don't get flameblast until level 17 so you can use it for mervil and fidelitus too, but apparently its not offered to this class. http://www.pathofexile.com/signature-races/ladder Shadow barley hit 31, and not one hit 32. Whats even more sad is that the 10 point reward bracket was 32, which means that anyone that did shadow in a signature race was automatically going to lose out of 3 points. I like to see more gem vendor-recipes, since there are so less - or a way to get molten strike as any class by vendoring gems. Getting spectral throw for burning arrow and so on would be great options.
It is okay to get molten strike simply by playing a scion against hillock, but a more elegant version would be to have either vendor recipes or a dedicated vendor for such things. I like to have Leap Slam on a witch. |

" Yeah this is pretty much my experience racing as shadow. I have seen one fire trap shadow do well in a burst race so I know it can work, it's extremely uncommon though and the data suggests fire trap really slows down past ledge. Probably because of all the fire resist mobs in ledge. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Shadows tree is fine for short term races and long term events alike. The problems are weak gem selections and meta stuff like the +1 elemental recipe not working on daggers and 1-hand weapon skills being mostly useless in a short term race environment where raw damage is king.
All classes could also use a broader selection of quest-offered gems from start to finish in all modes. IGN: KoTao

" I think it's more systemic than that but I agree with you about the shadow starting tree area being fine. If it were just gem selection, gem muling would allow shadows to succeed in Invasion leagues just fine I think. Maybe people just choose not to mule so they roll another class, idk. I do agree that the gem selection is poor though. I also agree a better gem selection will probably improve shadow performance in races.
