" I'm guessing the idea is that this is still a cold spell and so starts out white, but now the spikes are puncturing the monsters and so their entrails are travelling out with the cascade. It's not the most flashy effect, I agree, but, judging from the comments above, some people seem to like it. It's only been a little while since the skill was released so let's wait and maybe they'll release a comprehensive graphic change for the skill in future.
