Duelist with low DPS, need help

Hey all,
This is my first character on PoE, currently lvl 64 Duelist.
I tried to follow this build guide:

I was playing 1 handed weapon with shield before, tried dual wielding due to the above guide.
The problem is I can barely do 3K DPS with Heavy Strike and 2.7K DPS with Dual Strike.
My life can drop very quickly at some situations, due to not using a shield.
I General, I don't think trying to follow this build went out so well.

I really wish I could have much higher DPS, x2 or 3x than what I have now and maybe even better life/Armour.

You need a BOR and use below link;
Dual Strike + Multistrike + Melee Splash + Added Fire Dmg (you need to use carnage amulet or gear at least 2% life leach)
If there's no carnage amulet or LL gear, remove added fire dmg and use life leach.

If BOR not avail;
4 link = Dual Strike + Multistrike + Melee Dmg + Melee Splash ( you need a gear at least 2% Life leach or Carnage)
5 link = Dual Strike + Multistrike + Melee Dmg + Faster Attack + Melee Splash ( you need a gear at least 2% Life leach or Carnage)
6 link = Dual Strike + Multistrike + Melee Dmg + Faster Attack + Melee Splash + Added Fire Dmg ( Carnage Amulet or a gear at least 2% Life leach) if there's no LL gear available, disregard Fire Dmg and link Life Leach.

The problem isn't really your damage its your lack of health nodes

I will probably need a lot of Orb of Regret...
I had an opportunity that I gave up to reset my tree with the 1.1 patch, I wish I had this option now :/

BOR is only supported in lvl 67 or higher, which I am currently working on getting there.
What is the common price for it ? I will need to start saving up :)
In the meantime I will try to get a 4-5L chest Armour, 6L are pretty rare.

@werelobster, what do you mean by health nodes ?

I made some changes if you will stick in dual wielding;
This will be your target, take the templar nodes first (top) then you can proceed with the Marauder (bottom).
Make sure to level up your primary gems.
If you decided to go with BOR make sure to get the Legacy one ( 18 atk spd, 18, physical dmg , 18 blind )
Legacy Price = 20 - 50 ex ( depends on the roll and seller)
Non- Legacy = 7 - 10 ex ( saw last night selling for 5ex )

Take note: Duelist is a glass cannon toon, once you hit 80++ you might take some shield and start from scratch again.
If you decided to grab a shield and redo it again, hit me up and can assist you. Currently lvl 85 Duelist 1h & Shield and solo every map ( 72 - 77 )

one word .start a new character play groundslam duelist or bow duelist .earn currency .dont go for crit builds unless u have decent gears .resolute technique builds are awesome for duelist/mara builds.or go for cheap reave builds. u will get nice dmg from these builds and try to take more life nodes as possible. ur weapons are good but u lack health,resistance in other items.follow my advice u will be worth it

The challenge now is to get many regret points and convert my current build to the one you suggested.
Any tips/ideas how to do this quickly ?
I can buy orbs of regret from vendors using a recipe, but that includes selling fusing orbs which I have saved little by little in order to trade for chaos orbs.

Regarding BOR, I am no where near to finance it, I need to improve my financials quickly if I want to afford it soon.
What is the best way to gain more exalts ? harvest ? trade ?

chaos recipe or flip items or currency conversion or do mf party and sell ur rares for alt and convert to fusing

Gokul is correct, its about trade but I would suggest at your level just farm dock.
If you can solo Piety at Lunaris, she's a good farming place. I can farm currency worth of 1-2 exalt every hour at that place. Try Ledge at Merciless, good farming place ( found 2 exalts within 15 runs and other orbs).

What is a good rarity of items drop ?
I am currently at 43% and I only got 1 exalt dropped so far, looks like its not enough.
My latest farming is in the Ledge at Merciless, but it is not being very resourceful so far.
I have seen some people with 90+% rarity, rare and unique items are dropping like crazy.
