" That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the cataclysm. Also, it could also mean that if they did manage to contact whatever they were trying to, the thing on the other end might not be as hospitable as they thought, Doryani basically just acknowledged that possibility. |

I have the Marauder mindset, if it bleeds it can be killed. I haven't really paid any attention to the lore, surprising given how many times I have run through the acts.

From all the pieces of lore I've picked up, something is 100% clear in my mind. Both the Vaal, and Dominus were "deceived" by something truly evil. What it it is we don't know yet, all I can guess is that it lives in another dimension of sorts, and it was the one that gave Malachai the "dreams" to build the reverie Device aka Eternal Lab. Also this machine, or the other one (the one he moved somewhere else just before the cataclysm) could be the twist Lady Dialla speaks about, and the one Dominus is looking for.

The "Twist" refers to the destruction of the eternal empire in a single night. they think its a weapon / spell that did it hence them wanting " it ". Most likely its a spell that kills everyone involved ( vaal and now eternal empire ) that brings the "beast" closer to entering the world ( or waking it up if indeed it IS here already under wraeclast ). The "beast" is something of pure evil and it either feeds on death, or nightmares, or both. The virtue gems are bait...bait to entice civilizations to listen to it and eventually destroy themselves. All for the purpose of summoning it ( or feeding it )....Also I think it IS actually a god not some pseudo god...but a full scale no kidding god who probably cant be killed.

To reply to lupa YES the eternal empire did build a device up in the mountains north of sarn that started the "twist" it was called the....ascension device or something, the lore in the library goes into detail about it. It was supposed to purify the influence of the virtue gems but instead it caused the twist. Voll of therebus spared malachi after chitus was killed because malachai promised to remove the gems influence.

I wonder how dominus could look at the miscreations and think "yeah, I'm doing the right thing here".
I suppose the big bad could influence others through more ways than just virtue gems. |
