18+game rating. What does it mean for you?
For the last few days i have seen a lot of posts culminating with a very fiery thread that got one point across: most people dont know what 18+ means in a game or in RL. This thread was made to try an clarify this aspect and help the people that got muted, and future people not to get muted.
An ESRB 18+ rating covers the following:" These may include adult video games that show sexuality, graphic nudity, more of strong language, more references/use of drugs/alcohol/tobaccos, and/or more intense violence, and blood and gore than the M rating can accommodate." Nowhere in that description does it say its ok to be vulgar, racist, sexist etc. Moving along we take a look at what 18+ means in a modern society. Adulthood, a condition the rating would make registering to this game a requirement but its more of a guide line then a rule so its not that important since GGG cant actually verify if the person creating the account is 18+ or not, is:"The legal definition of entering adulthood usually varies between ages 16–21, depending on the region in question. Legally, adulthood means that one can engage in a contract.A legal adult is a legal concept for a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and RESPONSIBLE." As stated above among the many advantages of being 18+ it also comes with a drag, responsibility. Nowhere is it stated that you are allowed to swindle, harassing or offend someone via chat, forum or as simple as character name. So please, while Poe is still a video game and as such a virtual environment, that does not mean one can take leave of one moral boundaries. That means no you cant spam insults no you cant have character names that you know are offensive and no you may not throw a fit because of it because you know you are 18+ you supposed to know this if you are playing this game. Thank you and here is a weird plastic bag for the long post http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fSBD2EXn28s/TZgzEGItQ5I/AAAAAAAAAC4/WoJxFve6hDE/s1600/plastic+bag+polar+bear.jpg "May those who accept their fate be granted happiness.

I hate it when people make long posts but don't bother to use paragraphs :P

This is the reason games that have online play say "Online Gameplay Experience May Vary". That being said, I don't think GGG or the mods condone any sort of racism, sexism, or any other harassment towards a player.

This game doesn't actually need a rating, does it? An ESRB rating (or other rating) aren't required, it's just that some stores (probably most) won't sell the product. But since this is online it doesn't even matter.

" What's funny about your post is that when you created an account here, you signed a contract with GGG specifically stating that you wouldn't use language that can be deemed obscene or foul. http://www.pathofexile.com/legal/terms-of-use-and-privacy-policy "Censorship" is amused by this. |

" If you're under the auspices of systems like PEGI or the Australian Classification Board, then they do get to decide what's "good" for you. Unfortunately, they have the power to ban game sales if they see fit. Of course, that wouldn't stop you from purchasing overseas in spite of them. |
