How do you pronounce "Vaal"?

When Chris says it in his interviews it's 'vahl', but in English at least should it be closer to 'væl'? Would the 'aa' diphthong be closer to 'vayel'?

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Should be something like vāl with the a extended and slurred I think since that is usually how duplicated letters are pronounced.
So maybe va-al or vah-all? |
