Is anyone actually using Vaal Gems?

Looks like they just patched to make the soul requirement less in lower leagues. I will have to give them shot now.
I'm using vaal cold snap and I love it. I get to use it once or twice in every area on cruel and the groups are even bigger in merciless so I'll be using it even more often there. My buddy is using vaal rain of arrows and he thinks it's great too.
I'm using Vaal cold snap and loving it.

I'm able to use it around 2x per dock map for instance. I save the charge for whenever a lockbox is opened, I pop it straight away and it gives 2 - 3 seconds time to recover from whatever the box pops OR burn down a few of the mobs so its not so intense.
Ice nova and detonate dead. I think detonate dead will make coward's trial farmable even for non GG characters. For ice nova, I"m playing a freeze/shock shadow but I haven't been able to use it once since it dropped so far =p
Im using vaal fireball and vaal molten shell on my incinerate build love them
I'm using Double Strike on my melee, and Cyclone on my rf build. Loving the gems, but haven't tried the others yet.
I've been leveling up Vaal Molten Shell to try 20% quality recipe, but I've only ever used it twice or so.

Souls are gained by everyone in the party, no matter who makes the kill.
Oh well that's just stupid.

How it should work:
1. One monster kill = one soul. Period. Only one person can get it. Actually, only one gem can get it.
2. Souls are evenly distributed among non-Full Vaal gems in the party, regardless of who owns them. This would mean that, in a party with only one Vaal gem being used, that single Vaal gem would get all the souls.
3. In #2, I said "non-full." I meant it. If someone else's Vaal gem is full on souls, it's no longer counted in on soul distribution.
4. Only selected skills should count. If it's not on your toolbar, it doesn't collect souls. This will help slightly against trolls who try equipping 20+ Vaal gems simultaneously.
5. The cost design should be such that, assuming 6 relatively average Vaal gems are equipped throughout an entire party, each gets to be used once per map. (96 souls per use only makes sense if there's at least 500 monsters per map.)

Oh good God this has got to be the worst idea ever presented. People are having trouble filling up gems ON THEIR OWN and now you want to make it so kills are distributed one by one for everyone in your party. That would entirely discourage group play. They are NOT OP enough that only one person should be able to use one. With 6 people using normal skills, the Vaal gems would be superfluous anyways. By the time someone was able to use theirs, the rest of the party would have killed everything already.

This is pretty much the ONLY mechanic of vaal gems that should be kept the same.
It wouldn't discourage group play, it would just discourage the entire damn party from running Vaal gems.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
I don't see the point really, at lest not right now. Could be stronger later game, but would you need a whole set up links for just that? And use it once or twice per map or something? I don't know if that would be worth it or not.

I cleared a couple corrupted areas and decided it wasn't even close to worth my time while leveling. The gems are kind of cool but completely useless right now. We need some major balancing or these are just a gimmick.

Hopefully the corrupted areas will be worth my time at a higher level.
