Take the area that you're most comfortable with farming. Make sure you have all items visible. And when you find a good 2-hander, white. use 4 whetstones to make it 20% and then roll it, chance it, or magic it.
Repeat till you find something usefull. The mechanics of this game to make your own stuff are truly awesome, the best I have experienced so far.
If you're a loner like me, this is the answer. Crafting (or trading for something you like) will get you what you want far faster than farming. In fact, the only farming I really do is for currency and for 4L, 5L, 6L whites that can be crafted.

And I'd just like to point out that the only reason uniques "drop more" in groups is because more players = more drops in general. You can sort of simulate this by wearing a pair of gold rings and a gold amulet.

I find a white that is near my level requirement and high roll base stat and use an orb of alchemy on it. Then I use chaos orbs to get the effects I want, then jeweller's orbs, chromatic orbs, and fusing orbs to get the setup I want. Voila, new gear.
Pretty much this. Even if you're not finding exceptionally good gear, you should be building up most of these orbs in at least some quantity. Given enough effort, you can always craft what you need (or close enough). Trading is also an option, but I haven't done much yet, since I'm waiting for the economy to stabilize first.
Ok so I did a quick search and found no answer so im sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here. I've been playing this game a few days now, have watch my share of youtube vids about it, and now have my 2nd char over lvl 30. I am stumped on how to get new gear for either of my guys.
I can never seem to find ANY good drop when I'm soloing, or playing with others. Having major problems with weapons. Being a Marauder and using Ground Slam as my main DPS, I am pretty much restricted to 2h Maces only. Currently using a item I found in my 20's because I still havent been able to find anything new.
Am I missing something?
Normally, you get alot more rares and legendaries when playing as a group, the more the merrier.
(We did a run yesterday with three people and got two legendaries and a bunch of rares)
But even solo there is a chance of finding legendaries.
2) Upgrade it to 20% quality with Whetstones / Armorscraps
3) Use Transformation Orb on that item
3.1) if the outcome is good then jump to 8
3.2) if the outcome is bad then jump to 5
3.3) if the outcome is REALLY good then jump to 6
or
3) Use Orb of Alchemy on that item
3.1) if the outcome is good then jump to 8
3.2) if the outcome is bad then jump to 4
3.3) if the outcome is REALLY good then jump to 6
4) Use Chaos Orb
4.1) if the outcome is good then jump to 8
4.2) if the outcome is bad then jump to 4
4.3) if the outcome is REALLY good then jump to 7
5) Use Orb of Alteration
5.1) if the outcome is good then jump to 8
5.2) if the outcome is bad than jump to 5
5.3) if the outcome is REALLY good then jump to 6
6) Use Regal Orb and prey
6.1) if the outcome is appropriate then jump to 7
6.2) if the outcome is not so good then jump to 8
7) Use Exalted
7.1) if the outcome is appropriate then jump to 7
7.2) if the outcome is not so good then jump to 8
8) Kill / Grind more stuff

solo vs group has no bearing on quality
No but you get more rares / legs when playing as a group due to:
Increased Item Quantity
This modifier increases the average number of items that drop from monsters and chests. It does not affect the type, quality, or rarity of item dropped, only the chance that something will drop. There is no cap on the usefulness of this modifier, as monsters can drop more than one item at a time.
The base chance for an item to drop from a normal monster is 16%. This varies between monster types, and special monsters have higher drop chances.
When in a party, each player in the party after the first gives a +50% item quantity modifier on drops.
Shops can actually sell blues pretty often, and they are fairly cheap. Just keep checking and you can find some good stuff. I've been saving my orbs for late game.
