Chaos Resistance has made me consider quiting Poe.. Help
Was wondering if i could have some help with my gear. Thanks & ITS MUCH appreciated! : )
! You will notice that the gems in my Chest & hand gear doesn't match on one another because things i could match them with are forged with other weapons and i don't have enough Jeweller's Orb's & Fusing orb's to take the risk of breaking it all down to add them.. So those gems in chest & hand are there just to level up for now. I've done up to level 76 maps with -60% CR and had no problems- the key being 4k life and a lot of life leach. I dont build around energy shield anyway.
I recommend a build with decent life and a healthy disdain for chaos damage at first. You can do some situational gear swaps for Sewers and bosses which do a lot of chaos damage but in general you shouldn't need it much. Don't be afraid to enroll and fix flaws in your build - this is a line-up game. |

The stuff you are hoarding is mostly going to help. With Spectral Throw you shouldn't be having problems with chaos damage. Get some life leech jewelry. And burn some orbs of fusing on the 2h axe. Those support gems will not help unless you link those sockets.

Your build does not open, maybe click the copy link from the build page and paste.
I can't tell what level you are. |

^ The build will open, you just need to paste the URL into your browser...
He has 66 points spent and is in merciless, and one of his gems requires level 54. So he is at least that level. Conveniently, if you do all the skill point quests in normal & cruel, and don't get skill points from the bandits, you'll have 12 extra skill points. This would also make him level 54. Or, just look at his profile and see that there is a level 54 and a 29. I wonder which he is talking about... |

looking at ur gear, the last thing u need to worry about is chaos res, which is good news if you are worried about chaos res.
Just ignore it, chaos res is like icing on the cake. What you need to worry about is elemental resists, getting them to cap. Then you need to worry about the size of your life pool, strive for high life roll on every slot. Then worry about your damage, then worry about your armour, even your skill gems. All of those things are way more important than chaos res, worst comes to worst just carry a chaos res flask of iron skin. I have endgame characters with -60 chaos who faceroll silly hard maps, its no big deal, characters Ive been working on for a long time generally have like -30% to 30% at best. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

For some actual advice though:
The build isn't terrible, though you could probably do with picking up some int nodes (there are two +30 nodes right next to the current tree) for auras. I would vote you concentrate on using only a few active skills to deal damage with. For instance, you could use Dual Strike + Faster Attacks + Melee Splash + Life Leech could give you a half decent set of links that dealt with both single target and AoE DPS. Leap slam is always good as a movement skill, and doesn't need anything linked to it to work (though Faster Attacks will obviously make you move faster with it). In terms of gear, you really want to concentrate on getting a decent life roll and 1 or 2 resists on as much as you can manage (excluding weapons), damage stats on jewellery/gloves is always a nice bonus, as is movement speed on boots. For your weapons, the rapier is a decent low-level tri-ele weapon. I would really look to upgrading the war axe to something that has at least double the dps. As a general note on attack based damage dealing, physical damage currently scales far better than elemental damage. This is partially due to being able to add on extra elemental damage that scales alongside the physical damage (in the form of Added Fire Damage support gem, or Hatred aura). |

The best way to mitigate chaos damage from the mobs are getting some chaos res or getting a good amount of life regen to offset the chaos damage, be it from attack, projectiles, spells, or damage over time. Though, life regen can be taking into account as well with the other resistances, but mostly they are a lot easier to get maxed than chaos res.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.
