Comparison and thoughts on Bow Ranger, Shadow or Duelist
Hi everyone,
my first character in PoE was Ranger (sucks :D ) so im starting new one. I read some posts about bow builds and i wanted to try build one myself. In spoilers below i tried to build three builds, one from Ranger start, one from Shadow start and one from Duelist start. I will add passive specs for all three builds from poe skill tree app. All builds are life based.
Spoiler
This one is Ranger lvl 100 build I focused on crit, probably using LA for shock dmg buff. This Ranger is capable of using all dex, str gems and int gems to lvl 18 (icd,icc,...). Bandits: Oak, Oak, Alira

hello!
a few remarks: - you won't achieve lvl 100 ;). Build for lvl 80-85. - take that 8% attack speed at ranger start! It's one of the best AS node in the whole tree. - The Weathered Hunter cluster isn't needed, nor is Throatseeker cluster. However Mental Acuity is excellent, I don't get why you didn't take it with at least your shadow. - The three first nodes to Piercing Shot are also quite good, giving a good damage bonus and there's a good crit chance not here. - Why didn't you take Berserker with your duellist? - So many evasion nodes for duellist is overkill. First thing to remove for a lvl 8x build ;) Ranger builds list: /917964
When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch? If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch. Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart... |

Ok so i made adjustment, i dont know why i didnt pick berserker, i definetly had it in my build -.-
Thx for your reply, what do you think would be best for start? i dont have limited curency not even one exa orb, so do you think duelist would be best for farming? Adjusted Duelist

If you don't have much currencies, be prepared to have some hard time, even with the ranger or shadow version. For a given low cost, bow builds are currently sensibly less effective than melee builds. That being said the duellist is surely the one with the lowest dps, the tree you made is more something to play in HC so I'd go for ranger or shadow.
edit: btw, a more optimized ranger tree, with the 8% start attack speed (you won't regret it if you chose to start as a ranger) tree Ranger builds list: /917964 When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch? What exactly sucked about your first build that you are looking to change?
Some comments about your trees: The Duelist version would do less damage but have more survivability. Depending on what you're going for, the Ranger and Shadow versions should be pretty much identical to one another except for the couple of points next to their starting nodes. You seem to be stacking crit, so make yourselves some Surgeon's flasks and you won't need Herbalism. You went for Power Charges on one build but not the other. Decide what you want to do and plan around that. With a good bow and 5 Power Charges, I hit the crit cap at about 70 points so you might not need that many crit chance nodes. Play around with it as you level. I think you've got a good base though. |

My first build
It looked like this... Recently, when i was playing my marauder, I met guy who went mainly crit and was trying ice shot, i just walked behind him as he left everything in wake (i think thats how you say it), so i definitely want to go crit bow build. Ill play with skills a bit like he did and ill see for myself which one suits me best. I couldnt get good bow for character before and i think i wont get one now so easily too, so ill take some crit nodes just to be sure. I want to get good passive base so i can try more skills, i read some guides and nearly everyone goes for LA. |

There's really not much wrong with your first build. The only things I would have taken out are the damage multiplier (does you 0 good without high enough critical strike chance) and the 3% attack speed nodes. Other than that, I think maybe you just needed better gear.
Lightning Arrow is good but there are so many other skills to play with too. Puncture is insane if you have high physical damage; great for rare bosses and single target attacks. Poison Arrow, Barrage, Ice Shot, Explosive Arrow are all fun. You might want to take a look around the Shadow forum too. Lots of crit bow builds over there. |

Ranger has a much better start than shadow. It also reaches the primary path faster than shadow without having to take junk nodes.
duelist is the worst of the 3 unless youre going for IR+US in which case its acceptable but theres still a decent amount of sub optimal nodes. IGN: Arlianth Check out my LA build: 1782214 Last edited by Nephalim#2731 on Feb 8, 2014, 9:17:44 PM

Do like this for a split shot build. If 100% use want to use LA, just make a few adjustments.

Use critical weakness, projectile weakness or defensive curses such as temporal chains or enfeeblement. Cast on dmg taken+enduring cry+ x+x (for instance temporal chains and summon skeletons) against phys reflect (or elemental reflect if you use LA). Split show + life leech + pierce + life leech + increased critical damage + faster attacks (this order). (for mana use ofc) Frenzy + projectile damage + added fire dmg + Blood magic (mana is not enough for this) + increased critical damage (unless you got good damage. Then you will maybe 1shot yourself from reflect. If your damage is that high switch to crit chance instead) + faster attacks. Grace, Hatred, reduced mana for aura's. Profit. That is a pretty standard cookie cutter beginner archer build. Good uniques somewhat cheap uniques = Maligaro's Gloves, The blood dance boots, Wurm's Molt belt for mana steal, slitherpinch (for manasteal), Rat's nest. Try to get a hardhitting bow, with crit chance. Harbinger if you got the currency or luck for it.

This build is for LA. Same bandit rewards. Also in your own reworked ranger tree, you have a lot of nonoptimal roads. For instance spending 6 talents on getting written in blood, is overall more hp than spending 6 talent points getting thick skin. Last edited by Frankenberry#0590 on Feb 8, 2014, 9:40:31 PM

So i made some tweaks, i took less junk nodes, build is for lvl 80
Spoiler
What do you think? I think with combined phys and elem dmg it would be easier on reflect mobs, whether phys reflect or elem reflect. Split arrow might be good skill but doesnt appeal to me much, its kinda boring gameplay, i tried it even with lmp and chain in build before. And when i get stable life i can respec, from botom life nodes under frenzy charge and top life nodes next to mind drinker, to spec further to crit chance, maybe it wont be needed.
