Fusing a 5 linked armor - chance?
" Don't worry. Thought the same at first but once you spend a lot of fusings you see it's not true. On a 6 socket item, 4l+2l rolls like 10 times more often than a 5l. Last edited by Sa_Re#3411 on Feb 2, 2014, 6:09:01 PM

I know that now, but the other posters are ripping me a new one because I don't start the game for the first time with intimate knowledge of how the game works. I'm sorry I was wrong, but don't just be rude about it; instead, try to educate me so I don't make the same mistake in the future. That's all I'm asking.

" Don't worry about it, the info isn't on the wiki because there is no reliable info on this, nobody knows the exact numbers except devs, we have only very rough community-tested statistics often warped by subjectivity. Theories are fine too if there's no solid info, but the custom is to present them as such. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

is the chance of 5l depends on whether it was intially a 5s or 6s?
i always think that with 5s means that could be less permutations (and hence easier to get 5l) but it might just be a fixed chance anyway. some say its easier to get 5l on 6s but i think thats subjective and anecdotal.. |

" Yes, chance of 5-linking a 6-slot item is twice that of linking a 5-slot one. You can get two 5L combinations that way: 1-2-3-4-5 6 1 2-3-4-5-6 Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

but with 6s u get more 2l/3l/4l combinations than 5s?

" Right, it doesn't seem to be twice if you look at the way the way links are rolled, but you do have more chance. As far as I know it works something like this: A fusing orb rolls a string of numbers from 1 to 6, 1 having the most chance to roll, 6 the least. So... (3,1,2,1,5,2) would net you an item with 3 sockets linked, then 1 unlinked, and then two linked. Only rolls that begin with 6 would give you a 6-link (6,2,5,1,2,1) And you have two type of rolls that give you a 5-link (5,something,something,something,something,something) (1,5,something,something,something,something) If there's 30% chance to roll 1 and 1% chance to roll 5 then first one has 1% chance of happening and the next one has as 0,3% chance, making it 1,3% altogether. We don't know the exact percentages but if using a 6-slot item you have as much chance to roll a 5-link over a 6-slot as the chance to roll number 1. Will existing links change if I recolor an item with chromatics? If I would manage to create a 5l, how can I "backup" my Item while trying to go for a 6l? What was that orb called? I heard there was an orb and some kind of mirroring for an item.

Links will stay as they are when recoloring sockets.
As for saving, you'd want an Eternal Orb to create an imprint of the item state you want to save. (the other item being the Mirror of Kalandra - the most expensive currency like item in the game) The difference between the two is that the mirror makes an exact duplicate while keeping the original. The mirrored copy cant be changed after the fact (can't change its affixes by rerolling etc.). You also can't mirror uniques as these are already considered copies of their unique prototype. The imprint of the eternal orb can only be used on the original item that was to be saved to restore an earlier state. No duplicate copy is created.
