Desecrate/Detonate Dead build

So I'm watching the footage of desecrate in the 1.0.6 content update video, and it immediately occurred to me that the new skill might finally make corpse explosion a viable skill. Desecrate addresses one of the major issue with CE: you have to kill stuff before you can use Detonate Dead. Well, no longer... maybe.

One potential pitfall is the difficulty in buffing both Desecrate damage (chaos) and DD damage (fire/physical). Detonate Dead does NOT benefit from +spell damage bonuses. It does benefit from spell crit, fire damage, elemental, and area damage.


How much damage will you be able to get from desecrate?

Will DD work with desecrate?

If it does, how much life do the corpses have, since the fire damage from DD is 18% of that?


Anyway, I'm excited about this patch regardless.

This was my first thought when I had heard about the skill desecrate but I would venture to say that the corpses spawned by it have little to no HP.

I'm sure it's meant to be used as a utility skill for all of the corpse-based utility skills and not DD.

Looking at the video, I'm assuming desecrate makes corpses based on the monsters that exist in the level the spell was cast on. If you look, you can see in the video that the spell was cast in the battlegrounds and was spawning dead ribbons. Ribbons also spawn there.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

Dev's have stated that corpses spawned are same level as the area you're in

I'm thinking more along the lines of Detonate Dead on a totem. Spam desecrate.

What if you used a Voltaxic Rift for the "Your chaos damage can shock" bonus?

DoT's cannot shock.
Don't use Desecrate for the damage, do an ABond build with det totems and spam desecrate to support them.

my guess is that corpse life will scale with gem level, just like totem's life.

so basically DD on 70+ maps = meh don't even bother
