Before general release this thread title would have been "Is physical damage viable in end game".
Many lewt.
Much desync.
Such rewarding.
Wow.
According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew?
Way too many ele resist mobs imo, but it is still viable. I have 3 witches, 2 of which use ele damage. The 3rd uses Phys + ele (Ethereal Knives with Hatred+Added Fire.

Of the other two one is fire, the other is Cold+Chaos. Both do good damage. If you are talking about ele weapons though, I have no experience.
Of course.

Physical is the flavor right now. But prior, elemental cleave was considered op, LA was considered OP. It's just they finally buffed physical so it scales well.

Spell wise, I don't know them extremely well. I do have a discharger (not CoC), and I can literally wipe out whole mobs with one discharge on 74 maps in full party. Will that do?
It teeters.

It can be viable if you invest in penetration gems or something like Elemental Equilibrium.

Although you'll be only mastering one or two elements at the most due to limited sockets...

Relying on curses for penetration is iffy because of the massive amount of curse immune mobs you'll face mid-game and up. Also, curses have reduced effect on bosses making them less than useful..

There's also reflect mobs but if you have life leech and aren't doing tons of damage you'll be okay.

Anyways, it's up to you whether you feel it's worth investing in an elemental build.

In the end, the only real choice I, you, we have is, is whether we play or not at all." ~ CharanJaydemyr
I use EE and it is a double edged sword. You can do enough damge to wreck mobs but also yourself on reflect. One solution is to scale down on your burstyness. Another is to go all out on burn damage which won't pop you like a balloon on reflect.
Someone mentioned elemental cleave, it is not so good right now because except the scale nerf, it needs life, armour, elemental damage, shocking chance, and the ability to use 180% aura, meaning you will have to give up two or three of them, making a half ass version of the original one.

And if you manage to make one, change the Cleave gem to Spectral Throw. You will see the actual damage doubled due to ST's projectile damage bonus, efficiency tripled due to ST hits multiple times, and survivability quadrupled due to a shield and ranged attack!

Who still uses elemental cleave?
You won't have my gear.

but cleave needed that nerf. it was a no-brainer due to how they 'scaled' ele dmg with cleave. sadly they went too far with that nerf and ST indeed is no-weak-points skill
a better question is which elemental based builds are end game viable.

Relying primarily on penetration gems or cursing is not the hallmark of high tier end game build, physical has to worry about neither due to mobs never having more than 900 armour.
