What can I do to fix rubber banding?

I am at a point where I don't really want to keep playing because the last several game sessions have had horrible rubber banding.

I understand rubber banding is a fix for desync, but I seriously can't move, even if there is only one monster on the screen. I will re-run the same area 5 times due to rubber banding and the ground will be saturated with my arctic armour trail.

I don't die from this mind you, because I built my character as tanky as I could, but I honestly don't have enjoyable play sessions anymore because of this effect.

I am running an i7 processor with an ATI 7970 and 8 GB RAM. My ISP is providing a 20 meg connection.

I run at 60+ FPS, but my latency jumps all over the place. Normally it is good but it will at every rubber band jump to over 1k. I don't have this with any other game currently, and really dont know what to do.

I have tweaked my GPU settings, re-installed the game. I just don't know what I can do to make this problem less impactful.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all you do GGG.

Well Desync happens normally even with a constant perfect ping. However if you have jumpy pings for whatever reason (maybe you should monitor the ping towards path of exiles gameservers and check where on the route is a problem) this increases the problem by a huge margin. I once played a bit while my room-mate uploaded a vid to youtube and the desync was a lot worse (expectable). So if you have latency jumps you should check where they are coming from, propably there is an issue somewhere between the server and your pc and if you find it it might be solveable.
Get an /oos macro and learn when to use it. It's the only thing you can do against desyncs at the moment.

What can I do to fix rubber banding?

2 options.
Deal with it or play a different game.
Many lewt.
Much desync.
Such rewarding.
Wow.
According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew?
1. Use /oos
Use it in tight dungeon maps frequently (this is what often causes the most deadly rubber banding) - server-side collision detection can make your client think it went through a crowded doorway, but you actually didn't. You're trapped somewhere and dying on the server, while your client plays catch-up. Using /oos can save your life here.
2. Don't use Whirling Blades.
Other teleport skills, like Flicker Strike and Lightning Warp, are less apt to cause you trouble -- but they still will from time to time. It's best to only use these skills in wide, outdoor maps.
3. Get a better connection
Dropping packets increases desyncs. But, there's really a point at which getting a better connection won't happen - dropped packets always happen even on solid connections.
4. Open chests frequently
You'll be able to tell how sync'd you based on how "instant" you are to doing the action that opens the chest. Opening a chest tends to 'resync' you with the server too.
5. Don't frequently do maps where enemies have knockback.
Knockback ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS causes desync. Shield Charge is the #1 cause of entropy between client-server. If you get hit by a shield charge or two, use /oos immediately afterward.

Much of the issues regarding desync are on GGG's end. Like, I've told them about Shield Charge for ages, but there must be some huge issue with it they can't fix, because they surely must know the amount of desync it always causes the client.

Desync just happens when the server believes you're at X doing Y while you're REALLY doing W at Z -- rubberbanding occurs when the server realizes it has a wrong understanding of what you're really doing and sync's you to its version of events. So, there are many circumstances where you can't do anything about this.

Running and rushing through content provoke a lot more desync than being meticulous and clearing every room before proceding.

Alternatively, press F1 and check your Ping (Latency). 300ms or lower should result in somewhat okay game experience. 200ms or lower is pretty good. 100ms or lower is exceltn and 50ms or lower is extremely good.

If you're having problems with latency, try a different Gateway (You'll retain all your characters/items).
Computer specifications:
Windows 10 Pro x64 | AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (WiFi) Motherboard | 32GB 3600MHz RAM | MSI Geforce 1070Ti Gamer | Corsair AX 760watt PSU | Samsung 860 Pro 512GB SSD & Crucial MX 500 4TB SSD's

The problem is that high latency does make desync worse than it actually is but isn't the reason you have to deal with it.

Seriously, learn how to handle a /oos macro. It's the best thing you can do by now.

How do I change my gateway?

Right now I have rubber banding while running through large open, EMPTY rooms. I have situations where moving items in my inventory repeats the action because it doesnt take. I mean these are things I dont expect I should have issues with. I will run some trace-routes tonight and see. Can anyone tell me what server I need to route against? (Or should be since im in the states)
You change it on the Login screen. Should be America, Europe, Australia and uh maybe a 4th option. Just choose one and see if it is better, rinse/repeat for all available options and choose the one that was overall the best (Use the F1 Latency display to measure which is best)

This is the first time I've played since open beta and back then, rubber banding was a big issue. Since I came back it's ten times worse. It sucks that no matter how well you play that you get killed all the time because of it. I'd say about 95% of my deaths are rubber banding. Seriously GGG, you should consider fixing this problem as it makes your game look incredibly amateur and unprofessional. There's ZERO chance of me supporting this game financially if you don't bother to support your players with working code/netcode. At the moment this is by far and away the worst case of rubber banding I've ever seen in any game, I get rubber banded to locations that I've never even walked to!

It wouldn't be as bad if it was just a few people, but it really appears that every single player gets this and just puts up with it.
