Also, you can't be serious linking to MMORPG.com game-list? That doesn't mean a damn thing.
It does when the company chooses to advertise on MMO sites as an MMO.
GGG claims PoE is one thing when advertising to demographic A and something else entirely different when advertising to demographic B.
The truth: the game contains all necessary elements to meets the MMO community's definition of an MMO. If it did not, no amount of advertising would get it included in the listings.

Show any evidence of a GGG staff member claiming it's an MMO.

Chris said at one point that their PR guy said to include MMO in certain adds to improve the reach, which in fact worked.
But just because I write Pig on the label of my chicken meat, doesn't change the content.

Okay why the hell does it matter what the game labeled as, it doesn't magically change the games content.

It matters because it directly relates to the question OP is asking. MMOs are expensive because they hold a massive amount of players in a persistent open world. PoE is fully instanced and does not require as much server cost as an MMO.

The label of it being MMO or ARPG doesn't matter, you can directly answer the OP question that explaining instanced games take alot less server cost then fully 100% running persistent open world games without arguing with one another the silly lingo labels.

I think people VASTLY underestimate how much money 70,000 concurent users can spend on microtransactions.
Is it not the rule of a thumb that only 10% of players spends money on free to play games?
How large is our actual, active playerbase?
How much every paying player spends? $5,7,10 per month?
I hope GGG is doing well!

Hi, I just discovered PoE and has played a bit of it. I must say I am really impressed with the quality of the game and also the lack of lags on the server. At least for single player.
I am ready to buy some packs to support this game however I have some concern or questions. I have search a little about this topic on the forum but found only some discussion about monetization on 2011. Sorry if this has been discussed before.
What I can see are 3 servers currently. I don't play much MMORPGs but I do keep myself updated with news of them. Developers always say it cost millions to maintain servers for users to login. The more users there are, the more it cost them to maintain servers. So, how could developers of PoE maintain the servers with the their current business model?
Is it possible to sustain the game for long term? Judging that people only pay once or twice even as supporter?
If you don't mind releasing a bit more info on the monetization. So far with the money made (including paying salary for staffs), how long can it be paid for the sustenance of the game?
I am pretty damn sure it doesn't cost "millions" in server costs to host PoE. Also I've spent way more than 1-2 times on this game, and will probably get a Champion pack soon. Can I afford it? Sure. Is it still a big dent in my bank account? Absolutely. But dat hoodie..
