Monetization method of PoE will it work?

All I'm reading is, "We're not an MMO, We're an Action-Role Playing Game-Trade Simulator-Second Job-Frozen Yogurt Dispenser game!"

yeah...? that's my point, it's not an mmo. you can talk about yogurt as much as you'd like, won't change anything.
It's an auto rocket propelled grenade ?

Well I never .....
Spoiler
I wonder what drives people to think that the game they like must not be doing well because it's "free to play"? It happens in litterally every F2P game forum i've ever seen.

F2P games have consistantly shown that they make more profit than pay per month games...

Do people think that GGG somehow magically forgot about how they would pay the bills? I think people VASTLY underestimate how much money 70,000 concurent users can spend on microtransactions.

Spoiler
9/10 times the post usually contains a really stupid idea that the OP will inevevitably exclaim: "if you implement this and charge XXX for it you will be RICH!"

I think you're overestimating it. Most f2p games rely on so called "whales" that spend thousands on the game. PoE unlike most f2p does not have any pay to win incentives so the thing that brings f2p games the most money is removed.

PoE mostly survives off pure fanbase loyalty and buying supporter packs.

doubled their staff... yea i'm sure they are just barely scraping by

The fact that they DON'T have any P2W incentives is WHY they are doing so well. the "whales" are not "relied" on... its a statistical distribution. some players will pay nothing, some will pay exorbitant amounts, but on average the player base will pay what they think the game is worth.

GGG has decided to make a game that has value to the players (aka does not suck) and as such they are earning exactly what they deserve. It's not chump change
