Wealth in PoE allows players to bypass challenges and break the game
I just met a relatively unknown player with more currency spent into crafting a single claw than the net cost my entire character.
another in the same game was toting a mirrored staff that cost 200 or so exalts. IGN: Arlianth

Anything besides the most mundane things in POE cost currency to partake in.It's by design. POE is a trading game, you can partake or not, that's the choice GGG gives you. Last edited by Temper#7820 on Jan 1, 2014, 1:56:28 AM

" Lol no. Communism is more about everyone being poor. Because the "need" of everyone is far less than than we the rest will produce. You don't need that tv, you don't need that radio, so in the communist society you won't get it. You'll get a newspaper, but that's it :D. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" I assure you that with today's technology we will overproduce. And that the "need" is far less than the comfortable life many people live today. Byebye fast food, byebye tv, byebye radio. This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

" Now, I will admit, my map progress got halted due to...well, RNG deciding that I didn't need any maps above level 71. That's why I went back to farming Piety for a bit, and then I realized that I was making far more off of those runs than I did the maps, with far less headache involved (rolling map mods, etc). As I said though, my summoner's gear isn't even worth an exalt combined, and I have had absolutely no trouble since getting over the early game suck that summoners suffer through until their gems get past level 15 or so. I have run maps with every single mod, though some combinations are just so obnoxious that they aren't worth doing (got Temp Chains+Chilled Ground+Vuln+Increased Monster Damage and the map ended up being full on Bone Rhoa...yeah, screw that). |

" Your claim is overly simplistic and mostly false. Reaching the zenith of any aspect of a game (including in game wealth) is usually a function of playing skill, playing time, trading accumen and luck. There is nothing wrong with rewarding players for their efforts. The meaning of character progress isn't in locked down skill choices. It's the combination of character stat boosts and a further reach on the skill tree. The fact that you can use skill quest reset points or regret orbs to rebuild a better character at higher level is part of what makes leveling meaningful. Cutting out a couple dead nodes and gaining a keystone can really change your build. Regrets can be gotten from vendors simply enough and are not that rare as far as drops go. Reflect can be a problem if your character is over equipped and under built. Glass cannons will and should be affected by reflect. You can have alternate attacks to ignore a specific type of reflect. The weapon you mention is just one way to overcome the mechanic. Obviously, there are others, and the weapon you mentioned won't work for melee builds, summoner builds, caster builds, totem builds, etc. Eternals were something PoE players asked for. Yes, it is a very expensive way to mitigate bad RNG crafting rolls, but unless you are shooting for a near best in slot item, you won't need almost perfect stats from crafting. The game doesn't require uber stat gear to play, but if a player wants such items, the cost should be ridiculous. The real question that you should have asked was whether player wealth/gear quality is consistent with the time and level of challenge the player has put in compared to trading. When vast wealth and great items can be easily obtained while hardly playing the game... that is when the game is broken. High level trading should require a comparable amount of high level playing. I can't suggest a workable model at the moment, but I'm sure one could be put in place that didn't penalize players and obligated flippers to play the game. Maybe something along the lines if equating xp gains (disregarding xp losses) and total xp per account compared to an assigned point value for items and orbs? " Yesterday, I was selling my Daresso's Defiance, a guy popped out and offered me a bunch of uniques for it, mostly shit stuff of 1 fusings worth, Rainbowstride and a Soul Taker. Naturally I said Soul Taker would be ok, he agreed, it has low DPS, but he's using it himself. I went searching my items if I have some nice DPS 1 hander, but I sold one 290 pDPS mace few days ago. Bad luck, eh. He had only one character of 70-ish level. OP: Orbs of Regret aren't free. Thanks for the Voltaxic, of course everyone would benefit from it, not even mentioning that a high pDPS bow shit all over Voltaxic in terms of DPS. Why is eternaling an item less challenging? Do you know the meaning of the word "challenge"? Someone close this ridiculous thread please. Last edited by tinko92#6447 on Jan 1, 2014, 7:06:35 AM
