Generally, Blood Magic works best for STR or DEX characters. In general, attack skills (gems that derive their damage from the weapon) have a lower mana cost even at high levels. Also, INT isn't as good with Blood Magic since you get no mana, so gems with high INT requirements are generally a waste. Blood Magic goes great with STR and DEX.

The fact that you can make your build and completely ignore mana/int/manaregen nodes is part of what makes Blood Magic worthwhile. Also, you can complete skip mana flasks, leaving more room for health and utility flasks. This allows you to put much more effort into a deep health pool.

It is excellent.

Spells, yes, if you for example have a life leech or life on hit support gem linked to it. Ofc the physical damage life steal nodes on the skill tree doesn't help at all.

Totems can not leech for you, unless you get like a devouring totem, but that's not really leeching.

Well that sucks. Then doesn't that mean that blood magic is pretty dangerous to use for let's say a dual totem templar while spamming curses since he doesn't have any way of actually getting health back?
Good read on blood magic here, I was curious too.
Say no to Shabby Jerkin.
One more thing needs to be mentioned:

The Blood Magic support gem is very costly (200% cost increase? 250?) and does actually make some spells cost a ton in life. I'm prepared to bet that it wasn't often used in CB. When people say Blood Magic, they usually mean the keystone passive on the lower left of the tree.
The problem I have with it is buffs with a mana reserve will eat your life pool something sick. So one has to be very sparing with them. Sadly these buffs are where a good deal of power comes from.

Still that's my personal taste. i know for a fact many have been able to make it work and work well.
Of course the auras that reserve a percent of your mana (life in this case) are a no-go for BM (at least on HC). But you can still use the ones that reserve an integer amount, since you can have way more life than you can have mana.

She cloaks the world
In impenetrable darkness
I Still don't get how you can spam cast spells like totems and curses and NOT lose health or worse yet die instantly =/

How much hp regen is there in the game? I bet there's more mana regen that hp.

Can anyone with end game knowledge tell me how it is possible?

your not listening to what these people are saying. Spells and totems are bad to use with blood magic cause they have high casting cost and you are wasting all that mana that you get from INT to make those spells and totems work.

Blood magic is basicly only good for attack gems. Like split arrow and lightning strike. Think about it, why is the blood magic node in the Strenght area of the passive tree?

Basicly, if you regen 100hp a sec and your main skill that you spam cost 30 mana. you will pretty much be full life the whole time. even when you take dmg from mobs it is still ok.
