-mature design (art and gameplay depth), vision
-interesting economy that do away with the gold-rules-all
-build diversity that really adds customization and sense of progression to your character/account
-slap in the face for Blizzard and all industrial budget companies; even Gamespot states it in first phrase
-free to download and play

Like everyone here I know the game has it's flaws (who doesn't) and some of us are quick to jump in and pee on your parade (desync, RNG, drop rates, "why did you nerf my build GGG?", "where is my PvP pony?")...

This very moment is reserved for recognition of herculean effort and vision brought to reality by gamers for gamers.

I can still remember the first time i heard about PoE.
It was all i ever wanted in a game, from the mature atmosphere, the complexity and depth in character customization, to the refreshing openness in community interaction of the Developers.

Scraped up my last few bucks, just to get into the closed beta and since then enjoyed every minute of the time spent on the game.

Not having played any other game on the list, i´m not sure how much deserved the title really is. But for me personally, PoE certainly is the G(ame) O(f) T(he) Y(ears) T(o) C(ome).
