Cast on crit not working as intended

Thats because your crit is low so youre not seeing how broken the gem really is, personally i have 83% crit and the screen explodes with eks the second i touch something, other people are maxed out at 95% with power charges. You need to really invest in crit to make it work and then the dps is higher than anything else in the game. If you could add the gem to every item and socket 10 eks it would be dumb, bosses already die in seconds to coc builds.

What attack-skill are you using to crit-cast the spells?

You need an Attack-Skill to be the catalyst.

When that Attack-Skill crits, then the Spells have a chance to be cast.

Example:
Cyclone (The Attack-Skill that will crit) -> CoC -> Firestorm
When Cyclone crits, there is a chance (depending on level of CoC-Gem) that Firestorm casts.

Example 2:
Spectral Throw -> LMP -> CoC -> Firestorm -> Cold Snap -> Storm Call

When Spectral Throw crits, there is a chance for Firestorm, Cold Snap, Storm Call.

Probably got a dagger with 10%+ crit. I'm at 27% with a 5.8% citadel bow and not even trying all that hard.

Through local/global silliness.

Because all weapons have base critical strike chance as an item stat, any modifier on the weapon itself that affects critical strike chance will affect base critical strike chance. This effectively allows increased critical strike chance modifiers on weapons to act very similarly to more critical strike chance.

Let's look at an example.

With a nonmagical sword, you have 5% base critical strike chance. That means you need 95/5 = 19.0 times base critical strike chance to reach the cap, or 1800% increased critical strike chance. Yowza. That's pretty hard, isn't it?

In contrast, let's equip a Driftwood Wand of Penetrating at a low roll, which means 8% base critical strike chance with a 30% local increased critical strike chance roll. That sets our new "base" critical strike chance to 10.4%. Now, 95/10.4 = 9.1346. So that means we need just 814% increased critical strike chance to hit the cap. Still a lot, but not impossible.

In reality, you'd probably want to use a dagger or two for a CoCS build, because of dagger global increased critical strike chance. I would optimally select a Platinum Kris, with 7.28% base crit. 7.28*1.3 = 9.463 and 95/9.46 = 10.04323, so somewhere around 900% increased crit would be suitable for bringing us to cap.

You can probably get increased critical strike chance in the hundreds from the passive tree, especially if you use daggers. 6 power charges would grant you 300, taking quite a load off. Next you have, say, 160 from dual Kris. Top it off with some crit chance from jewelry (magical from amulets, or implicit from diamond rings) and there you have it.

you don't get it - it's a useless gem. You need to have it linked with a skill that will be used to make the critical strike, then and only then you will have a CHANCE to cast spells linked to it. Waste of sockets.
