Duping spree!
Okay so d2 and right now d3 has serious duping problem, to the point they had to close asia server and locking threads about dupe.
i hope the PoE's devs have some ideas to counter/prevent duping when open beta is out. Last edited by kinokunia#7123 on Jan 21, 2013, 9:30:45 PM

PoE is online only, so it should be much more difficult to dupe than D2

That won't stop people.
I'd say the first line of defence against rampant duping on PoE as opposed to, say, D3, is that there is no easy and direct correlation between my item and your cash. But that's just a small part of a much larger discussion. I'll leave this here for now, but if it becomes about D3, it'll have to go Elsewhere. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I would assume that any dev speaking about their methods to prevent duping would only assist dupers in where to look for vulnerabilities.

Chris worked in Software Security before GGG, so no doubt he/GGG have tools up their sleeve.

Your topic choice is very misleading.
Duping is always possible. Since trading or dropping outside of town is really the only way to exchange items ( unless there is coding errors-- which have been probably heavily tested) it would be really easy to identify and crack down on. I feel pretty strong that POE devs will respond very quickly to an issue like this. Xbox 360- Isonul PoE- Isonul (social char) Pm me anytime :) Last edited by Isonul#7985 on Jan 21, 2013, 9:48:50 PM

I'm not familiar with this "duping". Would someone be so kind as to explain what this is? It is some sort of item scamming thing that is happening within D3?

i'm pretty sure in one of the interviews either Chris or Jonathan mentioned something about being able to track objects via unique id's. saying they can remove anything that is either duped or falsely modified in some way.
as poster above states i'm confident that GGG have ideas and techniques at their disposal that can tackle the usual duplicitous behavior that loot-based ARPG games seem to encourage. |

" People will still do it. I remember that even WoW had a period where dupes ran rampant (if you constantly have 200 items with drop rates of 0,0001% (by mobs that can be killed once a week) on the AH; that is kind of a giveaway). It's a constant of the human condition: Always find the easiest way to do something, and if there's real money in it, the effort is stepped up accordingly. And always tell yourself that you aren't harming anyone by doing it. And it's the Prisoner's Dilemma: It's always more beneficial for the individual to screw over the group, even if the whole group would profit if nobody screwed anyone over. I think what might help a bit would be if we as community condemned it. I know that in D2, D3 and WoW it was kind of accepted because "Well, it does not directly hurt me, why would I care what someone else does with his money?". Nobody reported anyone who had duped, or bought duped items. On the contrary - they would chew you out if you spoke out against duping. 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.
