Don't know about the 1 week race, I really don't feel like no-lifing for an entire week, but if it gives out alot of points I might have to do it anyway.
I hope you can find a solution that makes the 1 week rewarding for those who want to play it, but not obligatory for all the racers who are competing for a top 20 overall season rank. I would suggest you don't give players season reward points for competing in the 1 week, but implement a different reward structure just for that race, that is no less rewarding but doesn't affect the normal race season at all. #1 Victim of Murphy's Law.
