Mind Drinker 2%, Worth It?
Mind Drinker leeches only 2% physical damage as mana,.. my question is, is it worth it?
I am a bow wielding Shadow, that relies mainly on elemental criticals. That considering, my physical damage is far from optimal, but maybe still significant to warant picking Mind Drinker for its 2%.

If you deal some amount of physical damage you can sustain your bow skills with mind drinker.
I deal 150-500 frenzy and 120-400 split arrow and along with 70 mana regen and mind drinker I can attack infinitely. To crit or not to crit ?

" Hmmm,.. if it's thát good, then together with Soul Siphon, I should be able to sustain myself even with half decent gear. I wonder whether I would even need Eldritch Battery, Charisma and/or Deep Thoughts then? Certainly not all of them? |

I took a look at your tree, and objectively speaking , its terrible for your build and terrible in general. Mana on kill is almost worthless, you have absolutely no life, or armor or ev, you wasted 8 points in ice and 3 points on mana. You didnt even take the bow crit chance node or the elemental damage nodes latter. (basically everything north of eb is worthless) Your tree could easily save another 4 node just by rearranging some path.
I will post a map viable tree for you in a bit. Last edited by uro2#7897 on Dec 8, 2013, 1:30:55 PM

" Well I am open to suggestions, and would much appreciate to see your reroute =) Regarding the Life, the build does actually has more Life than it seems. There's a lot of "hidden" Life in nodes like Talons of Murder. Finally, something I hadn't mentioned yet in this thread: I'm using Ice Shot. Last edited by Brazilski#3092 on Dec 8, 2013, 1:42:58 PM

Shadow or ranger start,

Personally I think you should start scion for the massive elemental damage and life on the templar side, and a lot of crits on the lower ranger side. In this build, you have almost 100% more weapon elemental damage and 1.5x more life. and you are flexible to go about your defenses as you are really close to iron reflex. Another thing to note is the aura buffs nears you. it may be a big additional to your build if you rely on grace/if or flat elemental from anger and wrath. Personally 6l would look like be (LA/EH) - (WED) - (Added fire) - (lmp/chain/gmp) -(blood magic/life leech) - (ICM/prolif). any elemental auras would work, but i personally like to have wraith coz people run hatred all the time.

You could be doing (alot, almost 4x times more damage) if you elemental hit / la / with prolifs. After all that would be the best use of a "crit bow" and "elemental" focused build. If you want to play any bow crit build, the bottom half of the ranger area is quintessential. Last edited by uro2#7897 on Dec 8, 2013, 1:56:44 PM

" Took a good look at your builds. Really like the idea of a Scion, but that simply isn't an option. I do not have access to the Scion yet and I don't like playing a toon of the opposite gender due to immersion issues. Regarding the Shadow build. I must say I never considered going down, but the Critical nodes and Ondar's Guile do seem worth it. However, I have a few questions: 1. Would it be worth going a bit further left for Ice Bite, considering mine is an Ice Shot build? 2. How on earth do you sustain your mana consumption? I'm having problems with it allready, even with Mind Drinker. 3. Why did you skip on the Acrobatics branch and Piercing Shots? 4. Why thát much strength? 5. Your build actually seems to have LESS life than my initial suggestion and you skipped on Heart of Oak too,.. ? I'm confused. 6. If you ignore the top branches, aren't you missing out on a lot of Ice Shot's freeze and chill potential? Finally, you advocate the use of auras, but bypass Charisma. To be honest I'm having trouble with Aura's in general. I ran with hatred for most of act II and the mana reservation is just too damn high. How do you make auras work? And how does Frenzy work? " 1) Ice Bit is trash unless you're using flat cold damage as your primary damage, so no not worth it. 3) Because most people don;t understand Acrobatics. 4) Because it is needed to equip certain red gems. Like Ranged Attack Totem. 5) Skipping heart of oak was a nono, but his build has almost twice your bonus health, or roughly 50% more health overall. 6) The length is a nonissue, you can get the crit to make use of it without going up. Making auras work is a matter of using a reduced mana cost gem. Though I'd switch stuff in the build he linked to get Charisma and acrobatics myself. Mana costs are rarely crippling as ling as you put in the bare minimum to keep your skills going and not overlink before you're ready. IGN - PlutoChthon, Talvathir

" Well, that was kinda the idea. " Hmmm,.. what would you switch? |

"I think what Autocthon's getting at here is that Ice Arrow's damage is actually based on your physical damage. As such, passives and notables that boost your physical damage will boost the physical and cold components of ice arrow, while Ice Bite only applies to 40% of your damage. (More if you're using Hatred, I guess?) Anyways, the core idea is: +phys nodes will boost both your physical and cold damage because ice arrow & hatred are conversions that work off of physical damage. Ice bite will only work on a subset of your damage, so instead of 30% increased damage it's more like 16% increased? (Level 10 Hatred) I'm not totally certain of the math there, but the core is: it's not the full +30% it looks like. EDIT: Just looked at the suggested tree, and yeah Ice Bite will probably require you to waste too many points to be worth the effort. Last edited by Softspoken#5099 on Dec 10, 2013, 9:43:58 AM
