I'd like to see a option which enables damage numbers when i hit and crit!!!
the complete showing in numbers of the monsters hp pool size is not so essential for me. |

Before reading this thread, I was totally against seeing hp numbers. If enemies aren't taking noticeable damage then either you're doing something wrong and need to attack from another angle, or the enemy has too much hp and it's just an unfun dps-fest.
But there's a lot of good arguments... One suggestion I liked was to only show them for big bads. Perhaps an alternative; a different effect based on how effective something is on your target. If it's really ineffective, they should noticeably shrug it off! I have a feeling that this idea is one of those that would take waaay too much work to implement though. An integer percentage value works fine. (no decimals)
Its enough information so you can go OMFG I DIED AT 2%!!! but doesn't make the game autopilot in terms of seeing all the information. |

Of the three I would most prefer the choice, as it gives the player the option, though if you eat through enemies like candy maybe a system where it only shows boss or mini-boss health would work better.
My favorite health display was from an rpg a while back. The way it worked was it would remember the total damage dealt and would give a range based on the killing blow. Say you had dealt 9000 damage and then hit for 1000 and it died it would say "9000-1000" and if you later dealt 9500 it would refine it to "9500-10000" etc. I realise that may be difficult to program (I don't know for sure as my knowledge of programming is minimal) but I thought I'd share anyway. |

" I must confess to not having read through the entire thread, but this is more or less what I think about the topic. If Joe Troll dies in about two hits, a health display would just clutter the screen. If it's some boss character though, pummeling it for 15 minutes (a rather exaggerated example, but you get the idea =) and not being able to tell how much damage you're doing could be annoying. I feel that not knowing how much HP an enemy has is part of the fun.
Deciding whether or not to risk your life (especially on Hardcore) to attempt to fight something makes the game a much more thrilling experience; and so HP should be kept out. Btw, good work Devs, you're total bros, and you make me proud to be a NZer. New Zealand has done something wonderful, finally. :3

Im voted for "Enable in Options"
In my opinion you don't really need it. But others do. In Diablo I and Diablo II, ShadowFlare, Torchlight you don't have them. Maybe people want to say if they die "lol I died and boss had 1hp" or anything. I also approve of the percentage idea - it doesnt clutter to much :) |

" Its what I think as well. I dont really need it, cuz I never had this option before, so Im used to play without numbers, but other players might like it as a feature. Its going to be a differential from other games. Maybe in certain moments of the game, you feel like take a little pick and check how's your damage output, etc.. |
