So you see, even with your granite flask (which is very far-fetched to bring into the equation considering it's not always available and that you cannot always know when you are gonna get hit AND it takes a potion slot for nothing), a single hit would leave you at low health.
Two hits in a row and you die automatically. And that's against a 3k hit.
Any hit at 6k (like you mentioned) = goodbye.

Woops, meant to put 36k, not 3.6k. Silly Lezli is bad at counting zeroes! XD
Yes, I DID mean thirty six thousand, and will edit my post to correct me forgetting a zero. Please re-read my comment. ^^
And yes, with my 23k+ armor average, I have about 38% damage reduction against a 3k Hit, putting me in an extremely realistic safe zone. I won't survive a 6k hit though! Ouchies! <3
Anyone who uses evasion instead though won't live long enough to get to risk their lives in those 6k damage situations though unless they are so lucky... in which case good job and go buy a lottery ticket! :D
(Remember, this is thread has '(Hardcore)' in its title. ^^)

The discussion is going good, but OP HAS ABANDONED THE THREAD
No, the discussion is dead. I killed it by using basic math as grounds for my point of view.
I hate when that happens. XD

Evasion is in my opinion completly viable, its just math.

The reason is: the more damage enemy do, the less damage mitugation Armor provides

This basically means that hard hitting hits do "quite the same" damage if you have armor or eveasion.

If you have 4000 Armor and enemy hits for 20000, you will receive 85% of the damage.

As an Evasion character you get a little bit more damage(100/85) but you will probably survive it if you have enough health.
This means the point of oneshotting is invalid.

If there are a lot of small hits in a small time the damage evens out if you compare armor with evasion.

Now there is an interesting point of Evasion:

IT REDUCES CRITS

If you have 50% evasion 50% of the crits you get will transmuted into normal hits.

An enemy who does 2000 damage and crits will be pretty troublesome to a armor character as the 2000 damage will not be mitigated by 15% but rather ~10% because the damage increases to 3000

The >dangerous< hits are more likely to be evaded by evasion characters. Armor characters work better vs less dangerous incoming damage.

This is just my point of view while I did a lot of theorycrafting, but I have to say that I am inexperienced in lategame.

But I guess it all comes down to the amount of health you have and there is always a certain treshold you have to pass in order to utalize certain defensive concepts.

Also a very important aspect.: If you go full armor you will get roflstomped by elemental attacks of enemies but evasion work against the whole portion of damage.

In my opinion a lot of people do not understand evasion correctly and therefore are underestimating it a lot.

The damage it takes to one-shot an armor based build isn't seen except in extreme end game (69 maps only). You're justification for evasion being a valid option, since is based on these ridiculous damage values that are almost never seen, is completely broken. ^^'

Also, evasion may work against elemental damage attack skills, but with Acrobatics, you can only get 20% evasion versus spells, which are the ONLY skills that do the entirety of their damage as elemental.
Since armor requires less investment to survive than evasion does, an armor based build is more likely to have higher elemental resistances.

Good try though!
