Storm Call Made Easy - Nemesis Build EB/AA/Skele
I just wanted to share what I ahve been doing with stormcall since there aren't many great builds out there for it. And some of the ones out I send to disagree with.
First thing that should be stated, Stormcall as your main will output a ton of dps. Let me first explain how this is arguably one, if not the highest dps "spell" in the game at the moment. How Damage is calculated for Stormcall Going to use very rough numbers for this to make it easier. The great thing about stormcall is how its damage scales muliplicitively. level 16 stormcall does 21-398 damage. This will average to do 200 damage per beacon. Add into spell damage mulitpliers, say 200%. Now your at 600 per beacon. Now you factor concentrated affects' 70% MORE damage and your at 1020. As a base skill without reduced duration or faster casting your able to drop 4 beacons in 1.5 seconds making your damage 4080 per explosion. Usually your first group of explosions will destroy any normals even blues leaving only rares. With 4 stacks of stormcall you will stack shocks very easily, especially with conductitivity. So your if you have 3 shock stacks that is an additions 90% damage making your damage 7752. Thats 7752 AOE damage every 1.5 seconds with only 1 game before any lightning pentration buffs it. Base Damage x Spell Damage x 70% MORE Damage from conentrated effect x 90% damage increase from shock stacks. Keep in mind that this means that spell damage for you will scale much greater then anyone not using concentrated effect. Gems Stormcall will be your damage for everything. Concentrated effect (Mandatory) Lightning Pen (Mandatory) Increased Area of Effect (Mandatory) Life Leach - Recommnded 5th Link Final options Reduced Duration (for more control) Faster Casting (to be able to get 5 stacks down before explosion) Suggested Empower Increased Critical Stirkes Increased Critical Damage Raise Skeleton Spell Totem Minion and totem resistance Faster Casting Arcitc Armor Molten Shell Increased Duration Conductivity Faster Casting Reduced Mana Lightning Warp Clarity Purity of Lightning (Your two biggest killers will be reflect elemental and storm heralds. Discipline can also be run. Haste would be ideal, but dexterity becomes a big issue) Reduced mana Last link is up to you. I suggest lightning trap to deal with reflect elemental.

This is your Base Passive Tree

Specialise it the best you can for what you need. This is the planned final build. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUAAnEC4wSzBVsHpRRNFm8XLxmFGjgabB8CJKoo-ilPLJwtHzGeNsU26TrYOuE8BT1fQYdDY0SrRZ1G10myTdhN41JTVa5VxlXWWPVgbWTnZp5nvWvbbRlxTXYReqp9U36vgKSBb4IQgh6Cm4LHgziI8YuMjHaNGY9Gj6aQVZeVl_Saz5rgm6GdgJ2uncSePJ_fogCmV6cIp4SsWbaGtzG3PriTwBrBtMHzz2XQ0Ngk2t3bC92M3fPfsOAS4XPjauQi5OznY-vu7DjtIO5v73zwH_JF-ej60v4K_o8= Play style is easy. Drop minions, molten shell, cast conductivity, kill everything with stormcall, use arctic armor when needed. Lightning trap reflects. Lightning warp added as an escape, but in reality its just to be able to jump cliffs. Gear Will update once I am satisfied with the gear Im using. Here is a tier list of affixes that you are looking for in a gear. Since you will be going wand and shield you will need you 5l to be in your chest piece. Carcass Jack is but will be expensive to 5L Tier 1 HP Resist Spell Damage Lightning Damage Armor Cast Speed Tier 2 Mana Mana Regen Crit chance Crit Multiplier Attibutes for gem requirements Shield Block Movement Speed Tier 3 (don't look for, but useful) Energy Shield Evasion IIR/IIQ Stun Recovery Will add additional information as I still tinker with a few things. Edit: This build was made for hardcore. Edit: One thing to note is that stormcalls first beacon hits before the rest, therefore allowing its shock stacks to apply to the sequential hits. I have noticed that if cast all in the same spot it sounds and looks like first triggers then all the rest in 2 explosions. If scattered it looks as if it triggers closest to furthest. It seems if you want to amplify your damage you will want to scatter all your beacons, even if its slight. Would be great if I can get a confirmation on this. Edit: Will add gear once I am satisfied it shows a good example of what you want. Edit: Passive tree updated to add Eldrich Battery Edit: Skill Tree updated to add Lord of the Dead. Has greatly improved the skele totem. Last edited by LoanWolf88#7942 on Dec 6, 2013, 2:26:37 PM

Looks like a pretty solid build, and very close to where I'm heading so far (56 at this point). I was planning on heading down to the shadow tree for added dps, and your tree heads to the super health node instead. Other than that my build is pretty much the same.
One thing to think about on your build is in the witch tree you take 3 crit passives over the 3 cast speed talents. I think it would be more effective to take the cast speed since you have no other crit passives, and Storm call only has a base of 4% crit. Your gem setup looks about like what I'm shooting for too, although I hadn't thought of using purity of lightning to help with reflect (great idea). Great build so far! |

" Yeah, this build was made for nemesis, so I tend to go a bit tankier then usually. |

" The reason I went crit is quality stormcall will buff crit chance. Better crit more shock stacks. Cast speed is tricky with this skill since you need to increase it over certain thresholds. I have not tested if 9% increased cast speed adds an additional beacon. I do not believe that is enough to get your 5th beacon, but with additional cast speed in gear it is very viable. Like I said, the base is there, the rest is tinkering with what nodes supplement your gear the greatest. Thanks for the reply! Something to defiantely test out. |

I'm running kind of the same build. I use an arc totem to play around the shock ailment, but minions are a good idea because while you cast, and if you want to cast everything before the storm falls, you're pretty much not moving so I tend to get a lot of mobs on me. I built tankier than you, going all the way to the marauder start and it's going fine, currently at act 3 cruel.
A few things to say (please consider I'm not a PoE expert in general and I started this build a few days ago) : you don't really need to add shock duration passives because everything is killed fast enough. 3 crit nodes are not enough in my opinion if you want to play it with crit, even though the quality makes up for it, and if you happen to spike a good lightning base roll + a crit on a reflect pack, you'll be most likely dead. I went for increased radius, area damage and cast speed : it helps me clear packs faster with the large area and I can call 5 storms, not too far from 6 at this point. I run a 4L Storm Call - Faster Casting - Increased Area - Life Leech, I don't have good enough gear to add Lightning Pen right now but it's already mana heavy so I get all mana regen I can get (my goal is to be able to cast Determination - Clarity and get rid of mana flasks, I lack a bit of mana regen for the moment). It's all different play styles and a different approach but maybe it can give you and the people interested in this build some ideas. Here's my skill tree : I made it 80-ish points because I don't know if I will manage to get past that, I like having all the things I need "early". |

" I originally had a spork totem instead of skele totem. You lose way too much dps moving instead of just putting down beacons. After grabbing skele totem it is a 100% must for any stormcall user. It doesnt make sense to use a skill to add shock stacks for a skill that adds shock stacks. I can't stress how mandatory concentrated effect really is. 70% MORE damage as a multiplyer is way too good to pass up. Faster casting gives you a 5th beacon so only would amplyfy your damage by 20%. Determination is a tough call, thought about that as well. Currently my armor is not high enough for it really to have an impact. As for your passives. They are good, very sustainable build. I would grab elemental adaptation by the maurader tree. Since you are there, anything to cap up lightning resist will save your life when you accidently hit a reflect. |
