The Good News about Diablo 3 -

There won't be BoE items.

In my opinion I could care less if it had them or not, I would have preferred it being in the game though, but it doesn't matter to me either way.

Here's a link to the great news -

All I can say is I hope they find a useful way to tame the economy.

Apparently 1% isn't good enough!

I can't lie Silver as soon as I read the news you came to my mind. I wondered what would you think about this after all your economy talk and BoE defending by showing D3...

I'm pretty surprised for your reaction :)

might take care lest he thereby
become a monster.
D3 will announce their closed beta on May 9. That's really soon. Looks like D3 and PoE are neck and neck for a release. I would be sweating a bit now if I were GGG.

I said it, pushing the PoE beta until august was a bad idea, although i agree with the ideology of taking a longer time and make a more polished game.

But now with D3 just around the corner, things will be harder for G3. However i love PoE and i'll play it too.

Excuse me. I misread the post wrong. D3 may announce their closed beta on May 9. Regardless, I'd suggest getting back to sweating.

blizzard said that the beta will be something like a demo, you cant play the full game and the deeper game mechanics are locked till release...

Thank you permaximum.

Ideally I think BoE would work fine as an additional item sink, but I'm willing to accept alternatives so long as those alternatives are more effective.

According to the developers BoE items would account for approximately 1% (more or less) of the total end game economy. So they decided they didn't need it. Personally I didn't care any way, but 1% is still a worthwhile number, especially if you combine it with other item sinks.

In the end I just hope they've landed a good enough item sink and I think I know what it is -

Crafting.

Essentially they're going to make crafted items require a higher load of materials - thus more legendaries and rare items that are found will get salvaged. This creates a loop whereby the player needs to dissolve a higher quantity of items in order to get a useful crafted item.

Also, because most crafted items will have stats that are randomly rolled, the chances of getting that perfect item are even further reduced.

Thus you have a system where people will need to remove 20 items to craft 1 item. Scale that up to a few million players and you've got yourself a continuous item sink.

Anyways, I don't mind that BoE's won't be in the game but I feel they are still useful for item sinks.

It's not really that we pushed back the date. Our "early 2011" estimate was originally set before we announced the game last year. Over time it became apparent that this estimate needed to be updated to be more accurate. Things are still going according to plan :)

I'm seriously not worried about Diablo 3. Several reasons:

a) It'll bring millions of players back to this genre. A rising tide lifts all ships.
b) We're planning to support Path of Exile for a decade. The exact timing of release of the two games does not matter very much in the long run.

And a lot of people will play it just like they played Starcraft 2. They will play because they are Blizzard fans, or played Diablo a long time ago. They are the casual players, they will beat the game one or two times and leave after that. I know a LOT of people who were Diablo fans but never played online, or never experienced even nightmare. Just beat the game one or two times and that's about it. So don't worry, Diablo won't bint 10 million ARPG fans to itself for years.

seeing as path of exile is FREE , it has nothing to worry about .

people will come , people will go , many will stay , and best of all EVERYONE can try the game out for free . No need to dl a pirated/cracked game , no need to dl a demo with partial features .

just download and play . seems like a good setup to me :) .
*skyrim will keep be busy for a while*

poe being ONLINE ONLY is another advantage as many many people prefer the constant contact effect . yes online only can be a detractor as well since some people may have pc's but no internet , not as big an issue as it would have been 10 years ago .

^ that and my current pc will probably not run d3 :) . i wont be buying an $80 video card to run it . not with skyrim coming to ps3 anyway haha .
