On Animate Guardian and D2 Mercenaries
Bumpity.

One problem with making Animated Guardians into "mercenaries" is that it means we can't do actual mercenaries later on (these are on the "maybe sometime" pile, since it's quite a large feature).
Allowing AG to use skills is dangerous. It would be like having another totem, but one that can move. Also I'm not sure about using player skills without player passive skills. Sounds hard to balance (note that totems are different: they are effectively a means to "cast by proxy"; they use all the player's stats in addition to their own totem bonuses). Microtransactions would be lovely. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do this. We prohibit players from dropping items with microtransactions attached for a good reason: someone will inevitably lose something (and may or may not realise it) and this would cause many headaches for Support. We would actually really like to enable microtransactions on AG items, but we haven't come up with a good way to actually implement it. Dual-wielding: it's cool. And confusing. At least for now, cool is winning. Ranged: Dunno. Ask Mark. Code warrior

" Players would use it as Curse Minion since Curse Totems got useless after the last totem nerf. " Use the MTX on the Skillgem....... |

" Awesome! Mercenaries are the only significant feature I miss from D3. While I prefer my own character not to speak very often (like it is now in PoE), I really enjoyed the mercenary patter in D3. |

I never liked followers especially in diablo 3 followers suck big time.
Why?because followers cant work in multiplayer games. Multiplayer games have to encourage multiplay and not discourage it. In a multiplayer game Everything has to do about you and not you and your pity peon. Summons it's another story. Of course i can agree that invisible guardian needs some improvements for sure. Seriously if you want company get some friends and play together Or i would suggest devs instead of companions to add familiars (magical creatures) If you care more about familiars you will find soon when ill post my feedback later this month. The idea is stolen of course from one the best games ever...SOTN!! From The Shadows I Reign

"Regarding actual followers, I feel the AG mechanic of filling many equipment slots has a lot of overlap, so it would be hard to make the two feel separate. Regarding Guardian v totems, I think the design objective should be that guardians are low DPS, high survivability, and mobile while totems are higher DPS, much more fragile (even than they are now), and immobile. Just allow AG to work on items in your inventory and they needn't ever be dropped. Dual-wielding: for me the annoyance of losing good shields definitely outweighs the cool, but that might just be me. Or is it? Ranged: I know there are balance issues (ex: AG + GMP + Chain + Culling + IIR + IIQ, stack MF gear and Quill Rain on guardian), but I think appropriate adjustments to guardian attack speed can alleviate these issues. Hi
AG would be great if it took into consideration the items I used like iron golem did in d2,ex: d2 iron golem created from shadowfang, golem now has the abilities of that item. In POE, AG gets nothing from whatever a player uses to create it from. I was excited when it first came out but after playing it I felt that most the time I had to baby my AG since it wouldn't be able to kill anything and quickly got destroyed when faced with 2 monsters. AG is to me a glorified moving decoy totem... GGG when will you enter the 2 simple commands for minions: defensive(minion stays close, doesn't attack unless monsters get close enough) and offensive(minion roams a little, attacks stuff). These 2 commands would change minions usage sooooo much. This command could be added to the UI interface page it could read like:''Minion AI: (checkbox)Offense (checkbox)Defense'' Even a option like that would make AG a little better then the current rush into battle haphazardly minion behavior. cheers Conan: Crush your enemies. Although I don't think minion commands are a good idea in a vacuum, i'd love to see active/support gems which give more control over minions. For example, some gem combination which makes your minions Lightning Warp while you stay still.

Hi
ScrotieMcb " That would be cool. I don't overally agree that skills on minions would be dangerous Rhys, perhaps like the facebreakers some of the skills would work while others would not? The idea of simple minion commands would be great as a whole for minions and eventually mercenaries, meanwhile adding minion oriented skills would be rad since whenever I have made a minion oriented character the minions need to be led basically face to face with monster before they attack, this defeats the purpose of summoners being on the edge of a fray; hence my idea of minion/ mercenary commands. Mercenaries would be great if they had different skills as primary,ex:heavy strike merc, duel wield merc, ranged merc...Also if a player could give them items and make them stronger, of course when they die player could retrieve stuff they had given them. cheers Conan: Crush your enemies.
