How big is the game world?

Hey all,

First time posting :) I just discovered this game tonight and have been doing some reading and watching some videos of the game and so far I'm really impressed and I am very tempted to try the game out.

I'm just wondering how big of an area or time would it take to complete each act? Is this similar to D3 in size or more in line with a MMO?

Thanks again looking forward to trying out POE :)
closer to d3 than MMO. the map size is not gigantic but the replay value is high

another thing to remember is that POE uses a very good randomizer for all areas, so often you dont even know which area of the map to head towards for an exit to the next zone, leading to a feeling of discovery quite often.

This is not really the case when OB comes around...there are some very large areas :P
Sweeping Maid
So are these area's all solo similar to D3 or more open with other players?
The game is not Open World, it's Instance based. The only time you will be able to see other strangers is in town or if they are in you party. If they are in your party you will be taken to the same instance and town. Some instance are small some of them are pretty big.

Act 1 & 2's town is pretty small, but you have got to see Act 3 town it is massive! I don't really know if this answers your question but there you go.

The size of the game world is 5.

In terms of how the game world is divided up, it's more like D3. There is no big world where everyone runs around in - everything is instances but the settlements. In cut-throat leagues, however, everyone can enter anyone's instances whenever they feel like it.

The differences to D3 are:
- The zones are a bit bigger (they do vary in size, the very first zone being by far the smallest of the main zones) than in D3.
- The zones are FAR more random than in D3. It's not even a competition, really. Which means that even after hundreds of hours /played, I'm still not bored by the 'old' zones.
- Atm, there are two Acts in Closed Beta. The first Act has around 15 main zones and four or five optional ones. The second Act is bigger and also more non-linear.
- The third Act will be available come 23th of January, and from what I have read so far, it's the biggest of them all so far.
- Plus, GGG has plans to add Acts in regular intervals.
12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.

Areas are instanced, meaning you're solo anything else would simply not work in an arpg, of course you can join the same instance with a group of players but it's no open world.
