Test Server

There needs to be a consequence if you screw up a build. Just like others said that's the point of gaming.

Your idea is really stupid.

Why does there need to be a consequence, that idea itself is naturally flawed. Also you can still screw it up by planning it out badly and/or dying. This whole "possibility to screw up" is honestly half the reason this game isn't selling out to everyone that loves dungeon crawlers. Ever heard of just enjoying a game for playing it?

You obviously didn't read the post, this is a way to make BETTER builds, as i've said before you still need to PLAY THE GAME. Please just read before you post.
It seems people aren't really getting the point of this, nor really understand the core concept. As I've mentioned, the idea is to create a playground for creative people to pioneer new builds, in hopes to either diversify the current meta, or to test and maybe even provide input for builds/skillgems which don't really work for whatever reason (bugged skillgem combinations, underwhelming performance in a lategame environment, etc.)

It baffles me that people are suggesting that this game is somehow balanced around the fact that failure is supposed to motivate the player to keep coming up with new and exciting builds. It is extremely disheartening to pioneer a build and just brickwall due to limitations in gear, resources, or just, as mentioned, the build doesn't perform well in comparison to cookiecutter builds.

I'm sad to see this idea being met with such belittling ignorance, but hopefully this post provides some clarity as to what was suggested in the OP.

You obviously didn't read dev blogs or watched their interviews. Don't go all George Bush on me.

No i haven't seen any dev blogs or any interviews. What is your point?
I kinda like the idea of having a league where you can go and test stuff, but i get the hardcore gamer side of this, that its gonna make the game too easy and its gonna remove some parts of the game because of that. But even when this league is added people dont actually have to test their builds there, if ur a hardcore gamer noone is forcing you to take the "easy route" to test your build.
Everyone don't have tons of free time to level up chars whenever they think of a fun build to try.
The idea is good. However...

1) Don't make it a server per say. There's enough Data on-going as there is.
2) Simply make it for Single Player. Where the player plays alone and can set difficulties and what not. Build his own items, etc... This option being implemented in a single player environment could be good for new players to actually make new builds. Just my two cents though.
How I did it:
Was making crit arc witch in warbands.
Not really working well and wondered... will it ever be good?

Logged to trashcore league and rerolled one of my high witches to that same build.
With best gear I had. Void battery, 6 link, ect.
Dps was baaad.

So I knew it wouldn't work out in WB with my 10c gear...

Closest to test server you ever get imo
Vorici can shove his fuse up his [removed]
How did the necro even happen?
Casually casual.

Actually, the idea of a test server is good.

My thoughts are as this : all these people run around using the same builds ... YAY!

Cookie cutter much? Oh, wait ... isn't the point of PoE to copy every other 'successful flavour of the day' build? My bad ... how dare I forget.

Plenty of people have LIVES that don't revolve around video games. Just because the plethora that don't have lives outside of video games think it's fun and entirely enjoyable to just make char to get to a substantial level; just to try out a build which could be totally garbage NOT a complete waste of time ... doesn't mean the ones that DON'T have the time feel the same.

I know you haters of change and improvements will just flame like the typical wannabe 'elitists' that you are. Have at it. Flex your invisible 101010101000's and prove you got nothing constructive to say as usual.

Maybe instead of being jerks, you could share some legitimate thoughts about how it will 'ruin' the game for YOU. Because really, it's ruining the game for the OTHERS!

People I know don't like wasting the little time they have. I really don't get to play much at all. I'd love to spend the FEW hours I get testing a terrible build on a test server vs wasting my time struggling to get it to a high enough level to accurately judge the build ... not being forced to take some other 'cookie cutter' build that others insist on playing with.

PoE ... the game of SAMENESS! Lets get a test server up and going so we can break the monotony of CLONES!
