Ok maybe I'm making this post a bit prematurely, but whats a person to do when they are excited? :P

Currently I'm not aware of an existing fansite for PoE and in the beta actually had a few members bring up how nice it would be to have one so.... Figured I'd make one? :D I had an existing domain/hosting blah blah blah, collecting dust made it for a project for a friend but never touched it b/c he lost interest so I transferred the services over to a new domain. PathsOfTheExiled.com

Before you try to visit, transfers take about 48 hours (that's what happens when you don't do the stuff yourself.. but hey I'm lazy) and I think content from the other site will show up on there at first till I remove it, so be patient with me and I'll get to work asap!! Hoping by Friday I can load a forums and a blank wiki possibly and just some future plans for the site (this is very optimistic.. once again patience please).

Now I do lack certain skills (read: artistic skills) so if anyone is interested in banners and such load me up with content!! :P Also anyone in general interested in helping with the site feel free to PM me, preferably resume style telling me what you're good with and what you have experience doing, etc etc. Preferably no suggestions/questions yet b/c that information will be much preferred on the site. And if you don't have direct experience with either art, running a site, or any of the fine arts needed for a good fan site, I'd prefer no PMs yet b/c I can make a section in the site's forums for that where it will be more organized :)

Other than that post below to let me know what you think, yay or nay (if nay.. why not :P)

PS: Yes the website names is a spin off the game title, and I did ask for permission before using that title.

I bet if I said 'BETA KEY FOR FEEDBACK' I'd get 5,000 posts -_-
It's a good idea. But it's going to be complicated. Look at WoWhead or even the arreatsummit. Those games were incredibly small compared to the depth PoE has to offer. Listing items or skill gems alone could take you, and a crew of employees, several thousand hours.

On the plus side, websites like Wowhead and mmo champion are pretty profitable.

Edit: I would have gone with Pathtoexile.com (if it's available, seems like it is as it didn't come up on google.)

Well im at work and this computer is slower then molasses.

I think the site would be a great idea. I havent dabbled in art stuff since school but if i have some spare time i see what i can throw together. Do you just wants banners for now or something more specific? If you need any other help, ill do what i can. Just let me know!
a fan sight like thottbot would be awesome for PoE with a trade forum like D2jsp :D

other then that, I do like your idea

make a wiki for users to update the site for you

Banners for now, nothing else is going to be planned in detail until I have a product to work with :]
You would get 5000 posts.

Fansites are always a good idea. If you can add a wealth of information to it then obviously more people will be viewing it and take a greater interest.

But like any community they take time to build. So the best of luck to you :)

I do like the name, but I did a poll with some beta members and used what they came up with :P too late now! Not to mention that name is probably WAY too similiar. Chris also said "We're definitely happy for fansites to exist as long as the site and domain name aren't easily confused with the official site." and only changing the word 'of' to 'to' I would think falls under that category.

Also item lists aren't always manually made.. that is the LONG way to do it to say the least. Some that information can be provided by the developers if they support the site, not to mention you can open it to the public so if you take 1 million items divided by a population of 100k users (very optimistic!!!! lmao) the number is miniscule. Regardless I'm willing to put the effort into something as long as it's supported by the community.
I didn't realize. I've never really made a fansite. Still, with a site that's likely to be that enormous (imagine the passive skill calculators [would love to see one of these], and items etc) it's quite a venture. Good luck.

Well if the site gets well established and a decent user base before open beta, I might be able to give out keys.. who knows. Don't know how feasable that is to get something that established prior to Januaryish but never know until you try! :]
