If you go pure ranged, you also get fucked in the ass; you need either remote skill or melee skill to deal with Evangelists. If you go pure melee, you get fucked in the ass by hard-hitting melee bosses which you're supposed to kite. If you go pure traps, you get fucked in the ass by cooldown. So yes, pretty much everyone has to have a diverse offense, or they get fucked in the ass. The only difference is that a lot of melee players are psychologically rigid on this fact. It's a good idea to have secondary attacks. I don't know if you are unarmed or not but lightning strike or spectral throw are very good for this kind of situation. Alternatively, you can have bear trap to immobilize him and work him down with those skills. Or have a stunlocking skill. There's really a few options. I agree that it is retarded, because even with ranged skills and careful kiting that people have recommended, one instance of spontaneous desync can nullify all of that preparation and care.
