Lightning strike mechanics

Even if he didn't reiterate, the weapon-specific passives say "increased physical damage with weapon x", and not "increased melee physical damage with weapon x". The melee damage nodes are not weapon-specific.

how auras work with LS?
so if i take Wrath - will it affect only melee hit, or projectiles too?

If projectiles too, maybe its more effective to use many damaging auras at once - wrath, hatred, anger.
It means to take more int and mana nodes to support these auras instead of taking nodes, which increase specific weapon damage, for example "8% increased physical damage with maces" ?
You have forgotten your place, Karui slaaave!

I'm confused with LS + Iron Grip. Let's say that i hit 1000 with LS. (60% dmg from strenght included) Projectiles from it will get penalty of 30% so they'll hit for 700. If i take Iron Grip which adds that 60% increase from str to projectiles it should do more dmg than melee hit am i right? (700 + 420 from IG)So is it more effective standing and shooting projectiles from distance than going melee?
Bumping to thank super useful posts from exxar and to see if most recent question can be answered.
We should be able to simplify all this into a formula I would think. The wiki explanation goes like this.

"Unmodified projectiles will do 70% of full weapon damage, of which 50% is physical and 50% is lightning damage"

Basically what I am trying to figure out is would the formula go something like this.

Weapon damage (Anything that would increase your weapon damage) --> Anything that would effect projectile damage ((.5(anything that would effect physical)+(.5(anything that would effect lightning))?

For example I have 100 weapon damage and I have 100% increase to weapon from any source to make it be 200 weapon damage. We would take that 200 weapon damage and convert it to 50/50 and label it as a projectile. From there we have our 200 and we have a 100% increase in projectiles to make it 400?

If the base weapon damage that it takes in to calculate the spells isn't modified first does it still consider unmodified elemental damage that is attached to the weapon?
