By the way, which country are you from? Maybe a native speaker of your country could explain it better to you and also maybe you have luck and someone who speak your language read this.

PS: IF you want a easy beginner guide take this. There you have all you need to make your first char and to understand the game mechanics by playing with it.

So there is no way to see what your opponents possible weaknesses/strengths are?

USA, I speak English and prefer native English speaking gamers too. Aussies and Kiwis and Brits work too. Also English speaking Canadians.

Where you sending me a link for an easy beginner's guide?

Here is a link to my current incomplete passive skills:

I've been following some videos/advice from ZiggyD for starting the above Duelist so far. But in another video he seems to be recommending the pure Ranger build. As a Duelist, if my preferred only weapon is a bow and passive skills associated are toward the bow why wouldn't the Ranger build be better? I thought ZiggyD mentioned that his Ranger tank didn't use/need Mana? How is that possible?

Should I stick with the Duelist or go back and try the Ranger again--even if some think it is squishy? Anyone know why ZiggyD would use a 'squishy' build with a bow?

I've picked three keystones: Iron Grip, Iron Reflexes, and Point Blank. Do I strive to reach one first or two or three at the same time? If one or two first which ones?

Sorry i forgot the Link last time:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/300860

this are 2 ranger builds, one has more DPS and the other is more tanky.

Your skilltree is not planned far enough. In other difficulties you need more life and armor. I would say if you want a nice Bow-build try the tanky ranger. It would be better because you reach key nodes easier. In your posted passive tree you are using point blank, this is only a good skill if the enemies are always close to you, but heart hitters like brutus shouldn't be near you (use decoy totem to guide them away).

Let's make an explanation on the tanky ranger build i linked you. You have lot of life nodes, life regeneration through Golem's Blood and troll's Blood (3% total), life leach through Blood drinker (2% of your physical damage), lot of Evasion rating % nodes. That means you are getting tanky. You also convert all your evasion rating to armor through Iron Reflexes(so yyou have only 5% evasion chance this is basic but therefor a high physical damage reduction), but this also means that you need high evasion on your gear (only some hybrid gears with armor/evasion and energy shield/evasion are aloud if you need the sockets).

You are not using crit nodes, so you are going for normal physical damge and icrease it through your weapon, through damage and attack speed nodes and through Iron grip which converts your bonus of the strength to your bow damage which usally needs Dex. You can't even crit through Resolute technique but therefor you need no accuracy because no one can evade your attacks.

You should use Enduring cry because you have 5 Enduring charges which are reducing all incoming damage (chaos, elemental and physical) so keep them up all the time, they are realy important. Up to 4 Frenzy charges are increasing your attack speed. Keep them up through the frenzy skill. Here it is good to know that all charges (power charges, enduring charges and frenzy charges) have one timer. So if you refresh one frenzy charge you also keep all your enduring charges for the same time your new frenzy charge last.

Through unwavering Stance you can not be stunned. That is good because so you can spamm your skills without a break through mini-stunns. But therefor you lost your 5 % basic evasion chance.

What you need on your gear is further resistances. You get +24% elemental resistance through the skills. And also you have through one passive a maximum of resistance of 77%. That means you need from each resistance (fire, ice, lightning) 53+60=113 (because of the-60 reducing resistances on merciless) at your gear. that sound a lot, but high end gear can have over 40% of each resistance on one piece of armor! You also need + Maximum life on your gear for more HP because you are using blood magic, that means you don't have mana and spend your life instead. therefor you need a lot of HP and should run not more then one aura linked with reducing mana cost gem (grace should be prefered because of increased evasion rating --> armor).

That is all for this build. You can play it till level 80 and have then free choices for the last passive skill points. You should allways adapt either way your gear to the passives you want to take or easier you are taking the passives concerning on the gear you found.

Hope that will help you. Have fun. And if you are tired of loosing your char through game mistakes try the standard leauge for your first char ^^ (that is what i do because i sometimes play drunk :)
Okay, I've started an Easy of the Easiest Tanky Blood Magic Ranger: Higher Damage Lightning Arrow Varient compliments of ZiggyD. I've got the PST pretty much copied from ZiggyD's Tree and I've reached level 3.

I've got the weapon figured out I think as far as it being a bow (ranged weapon) and I don't plan to tinker with any other weapon type.

1. I think I want to load a bow with green gems?
2. But what about what I wear? Do I want to wear high Armor rating (defense) or high Evasion and Life or some combo? If my passives are Evasion and Life starting out does my armor mirror this too?

Thanks.

1. You want at least a 4 link bow (only after level 37 still then you take what ever increases your DPS). You need at least 2 Green Sockets (1 for your main attack skill and 1 for Lesser multiple projectiles). Further you need a red socket for Life Leach and then you look what you need for sockets depending on the Support gem you want to add at last. That is all for the beginning. You can also use your chest instead for your main attack because it could also have up to 6 Sockets.

2. Like i wrote you want to wear hight evasion rating armor with + to maximum life and some resistances because the evasion rating and the life gets buffed through your passive skills. The evasion rating gets converted to armor through the passive skill iron reflexes (but you can get more armor through the converting then if you wear regular armor gear).

3. You don't see the change of armor and life on you gear. You see it after pressing c in your character sheet.
