Nailed it. Most of them are miserable twats and they can't handle the fact that some people make a living from video games. They want everyone to be a miserable twat and for the whole world to marinate in miserable twatness so that their soul-crushing 9-5 "life" would be validated.
Don't get me wrong on my next statement since i really do love video games but... playing everyday for - i don't know what streamers do - 10 hours or something that sounds like work to me.
Gaming is such a fun thing for me personally because it's my hobby when i come home from work - college, school whatever - i want to have some fun time playing with my friends farming some maps but it's just that much fun because it's a compensation for work a free time activity that i simply enjoy without "having" to do it.
Streamers don't have that freedom.

It is an act, or a persona, that made him famous and makes money. Its no different than a comedian doing a skit.
Its kind of like Larry the Cable guy. This guy is from like montana, has no accent, and went to college. I think he learned the accent from a roomate in college. His name is Dwayne or some crap too; its not even Larry.
Larry the Cable Guy was one of his "skits," or characters of his show, and people loved it so much, it became his ONLY skit or persona. Now, hes a millionaire faking being a redneck, and its not his real name, real persona, real anything. Just completely fake and what makes people like him.
Same with Athene. Athene was just some troll persona that people latched onto while he was in WoW, and he ran with it. If you actually believe thats him, well you have problems, just like the people who actually believe Larry the Cable Guy is a real person.

Hate is a strong word but I really don't like Athene. It's not because he makes money playing video games or any of that (who cares?) I just think he is a huge douchenozzle. I am happy he actually does charity stuff, that's awesome, but he's still a douche IMO! People let him get to them waaaay too much. Unfortunately he has becoming well known enough that he does affect the playerbase. That's why I have a problem with him. He can be a moron all he wants, but cause other people to be idiots trying to emulate him does create a bit of a problem.
That being said if everyone just ignored him it would be a null point so...

Depends. Some people would be playing 10 hours of games a day regardless, so if they can turn that into a source of income, it's a win-win.

It's not if you start to annoy and affect real people with it. The thing why so many people hate him is because he's using his shitty persona in a games with real people. He wastes time of 9 people in League of Legends matches by acting like a total dick. This behavior directly affects those 9 people. It wastes their time and their mood.
