How long can you play PoE?

-I agree there were a few OP builds, but there is still a lot more PvP diversity compared to PoE
compared PoE's "BearTrapFlickerMan" to many VIABLE VIABLE VIABLE D2 PvP builds, BlizzSorc, FireSorc, ES lite sorc, ESFire, EsCold, Windy, Poisonmancer, Bonemancer, Charger, Vindicator, Hammerdin, Mage, FoH, Liberator, Smiter, Auradin, FrenzBarb, 2H WW, DW WW, 1H WW, Crybaby, GhostWWsin, Trapsin, TrapWWHybridSin, Javazon, Bowazon,

-Endgame for at least 1/2 the community was PvP, not Baal runs. Real endgame was other players, not mindless AI

I think you are overestimating the amount of people who actually PvP'd for their endgame. And PoE will have its own PvP-meta, just wait for the tournaments and cutthroat :) Atm almost nobody plays PvP.

Been talked about in other threads, but relevant here as well. The reward for grinding out end-game maps is non-existent for me. I've gotten to around 72/73 and it's... well, it's boring.

Throw tons and tons of orbs to get... more maps! To throw tons and tons of currency to get... more maps!

The loot from the maps is, well, quite frankly it sucks. RNG... blah blah blah. Yes. But give players who are going through bad streaks of RNG something that feels rewarding. Otherwise, maps just feel like a complete and total waste of time. The 73 maps don't feel any different from the 66 maps except that the monsters die slower and hit harder. Oh, and the bosses... yeah... those are fun... /sarcasm

Look, the game has a lot of depth and a lot of cool things. But I often wonder why I'm bothering to keep playing. I have a small group who plays, and we bounce around from game to game. Playing PoE now but I can't see it lasting much longer without something to engage us beyond the current map system.

I agree with much of your premise. POE could use longer PvP TTK (time to kill) to allow for more tactical play. Match making is fine and does some things exceedingly well (rankings, ratings) but it is not the panacea to PvP. Neither is a permanent grief-circus like cutthroat. Open PvP or customizeable PvP lobbies are social and would foster community growth while allowing for novel scenarios and gametypes. Things like 2v4, U10 Dueling, 3v3 Vaal Oversoul, etc. are not possible in a matchmaking framework.

I also agree that POE's, at least non-unique, itemization leaves something to desire. At the moment item progression becomes shallow quickly as your search more and more resembles looking for items with properties similar to your own but with bigger numbers.

I don't agree that D3X will be a significant improvement or that it will poach a portion of the POE playerbase for more than 1-2 weeks. To me D3 seems like it was designed by someone with contempt for the ARPG genre. From everything I've read about it none of the underlying design isues, sustainability problems, have been addressed. Maybe the plot will be less painfully written, the items more interesting, the character progression more permanent, but I am doubtful. Fool me once and all that.

As an aside I was a big StarCraft fan and was majorly disappointed with SC2. I didn't buy HotS and, I feel now, I made the right decision. I can't abide rewarding a company that is actively capitalizing on my fandom while courting an entirely different audience. Conversely, I like studios like GGG and Paradox Interactive that are content with their audience. They're earnest in their endeavors and while I may not necessarily enjoy everything they produce I feel they deserve my patronage more than Blizzard.

Well.. I played diablo 2 for 10 years, still do from time to time.
But this game is way too punishing for that. Hell, even finding a reason to play is getting more and more difficult.
The only reason I still play it is because every other game on the market is either not catered to arpg players, or complete wank. Which, by contrast, makes this game endurable.

Not playable, but endurable.

Sounds like you need to go do something else since you clearly aren't enjoying this game.

For me, I'll have to see how the content updates go. If theres going to be regular, decent content I could see myself playing this game for a very long time.

There is nothing else to play for me.
So I either am bored or slightly less bored playing POE.
Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right.

Maybe you need another hobby? You should start lifting and ballet.

Yes, Arnie had sex with both of them.

Well here's my .02!

I'm a LONG time Diablo2 PVPer. Some of you might actually know me. (I'm the Leo that started the LLD Dueling league in .04 Classic Us East D2). Pvp is honestly what kept me playing D2. The only reason I ran any MF / chanters / rushers was to fuel my LLD / MLD duelers. (It was really hard to trade for lvl 30 - 49 gear back in the day). This is something that PoE needs. I know I just started to really play (a lvl 16 and a lvl 21), but I don't really have anything to grind for... Having duelers to supply / build up gives me something to look forward to. I hate grinding, so I need motivation to do it... Motivate me!
idk im waiting races atm, i play the first 5 days of nemesis and i quit at 73 :/

about pvp ggg could reduce damage for 1 to 10%
my english sux.
