Dexterity Vs Strength

currently Dexterity only increases Evasion+accuracy slightly while Strength grants both a solid damage increase + health....

Dexterity: unstable luck based survival
Strength: more damage + flat increase of survival

strength is granted some rather ridiculous gem's... for example you could mix multistrike + double strike and hit 4-6 times within a second with a 2h weapon... sadly i first realized this being close to lvl 60 trying to make a rogue/assasin but seeing as tank's with massive health deal both faster and harder hit's makes me realize dexterity is the worst stat you could pick...

why does dexterity not increase crit chance like it does in every other game to make up for it's shortcomings ?

sadly the way Evasion scale's it seem's that at lvl 100 i would end up with 15-30% evasion even while having so much Dexterity judging by how quickly it downscale while leveling....

This game is not friendly to glass cannons, and this is the epitome of glass cannon.

Play a little bit before you try to make wild assumptions about mechanics. If you knew anything about poe, you wouldn't have made that build, and it wouldn't be planned to level 99.

first and last question - how were you planning to survive with like 24% increased life? while NOT playing CI?

this is my current lvl79 bow ranger (with point blank and Chin Sol, so it is melee build) doing random ~70 maps no problem (havent died once since respec). no armor, no ES, lots of EV plus Acro/Dodge

it works quite well. only Undying evangilists seem to cast 'spells' that cannot be dodged and are entirely physical and these hurt, but this mob is broken anyway

I always liked the idea of adding a visual indicator of entropy, say a yellow one on the mana orb opposite the energy shield. Then you could manage entropy like you manage any other defensive mechanic.

You could take it further renaming entropy to something like 'balance' and allowing it to regenerate according to how much dexterity you have.

Man!!, what don't you understand, he is a rogue /assassin. He doesn't need HP cause he's going to kill the mobs covertly.

Pure evasion can work, but definitely not with a build that takes only 1 life node and has no ES or evasion nodes for that matter. The first time something in the late game hits you, whatever part of you gets struck is going to go into orbit.

If you intend to be in melee, you need to spend about 90% of your points on life and defenses or on pathing to life and defenses. Or you're just going to die before you have the chance to apply any of that overspecced damage you got. Simple as that.

As to str vs dex, its a pointless argument because you don't have to restrict yourself to one or the other. Most melee builds use both in fairly even proportions.

rule of thumb - with good gear 'increased maximum life' should not drop below 150% and only if you know what you are doing


you can EASILY reach like 250% without much effort


do not plan more than 95 points and better - your build has to work around lvl 65-70. because then youll face dominus and he is crazy broken

CI is for advanced players (that is - with gear and these that know when to switch)
the point is not only my talents but simply that strength is so much better than dexterity... i could see a reason behind it increasing armor along with a bit health but why increase damage that only force's all melee build's to be tank.... rather than the option to customize...

so ranged players are free to customize however they want but melee is perma locked to roll tank+aoe....

the build was intended for pvp and moving quickly around like a rogue/assasin quickly attack a target, apply a few poisons and let them bleed then retreat within a smoke screen. yes it is a glass cannon but currently the greatest weakness it has is aoe spell's and that you cannot dodge a chain spell....

if they granted dexterity crit + multiplier increase as all other games do along with implementing "phase run" to the game again which was taken out back in 0.10.0 due to reforge and reforging it to increase survival in the sense of avoiding all aoe's while under then buff then decrease run speed a bit on it and the damage it add's. lastly let evasion rating scale slightly better at higher level's. reforge multistrike, melee aoe, increased duration to require a lot of dexterity and a bit less strength

with those change's melee classes would not be forced into a strength tank+aoe build as they currently are...

to sum it up - play for some more (like 2-3 months more) and then start to suggest RADICAL changes
