New support gem: Link
|
I could see this maybe working if it allowed you to link only weapon slots, this way you could with one link gem create a virtual 5 link between dual wield or two shields. Mana cost would be at least 200% for any skills mixed into the link.
And if you're worried about it being a gem leveling issue, white the damn thing, make it like Portal and just as rare. |

" ...and then two handed weapons would not be used. Learn your game. GGG won't add something that removes an item type. |

And how do you know two handers would stop being used?

" Non-two handed weapons are limited to three possible sockets, which is half as many. Two handed weapons offer the only other possible five link capability. With the Link idea, any combo would offer an alternative to two handed weapons. You wouldn't get all six, but four would be possible with a weapon and shield, or dual weapons. |

I'm pretty sure what the OP wanted was an alternative to having a 6L item in order to get to 6 links. The idea as suggested is horribly unbalanced. A different take on the same idea, to get somewhere unbalanced...
Armor Binding sockets (option 1)
Place each end of the Armor Binding in a Hand, Foot, or Head armor socket
Sockets linked to Armor Binding sockets are considered linked to each other Equipment cannot be linked twice If Foot armor is bound, 40% reduced movement speed If Hand armor is bound, 10% reduced attack/cast speed If Head armor is bound, 25% reduced stun threshold There. Only one per character, max 6 sockets, uses 2 sockets, can't be used on weapons/chest, applies a penalty. I still think it's a bad idea, as it will basically require everyone to do it, and removes a major advantage of using a 2h weapon - having another 6L item besides chest. Here's another possibility that will never, ever happen, but removes the ability for an additional 6L set (it's disastrously inelegant, probably nigh impossible to code, not intuitive for a user, and will undoubtedly launch a vast array of complaints)
Armor Binding sockets (Option 2)
One end of the Armor Binding must be placed in a Chest socket
One end of the Armor Binding must be placed in a Hand, Foot, or Head armor socket Sockets linked to Armor Binding sockets are considered linked to each other Equipment cannot be linked twice Cannot be used to link more than 6 total sockets If Foot armor is bound, 40% reduced movement speed If Hand armor is bound, 10% reduced attack/cast speed If Head armor is bound, 25% reduced stun threshold Last edited by durnitol#2394 on Nov 11, 2013, 9:00:59 AM

" We already have three slots that give four sockets. I think in most builds that will suffice so unless you absolutely need two six links most any build will be workable with any weapon loadout. Two handers won't suddenly become obsolete either as some just want to play that way, and the damage you get out of a two hander VS 1 handers and even dual wield is not so insignificant that this would be so drastically out of balance that no one would twohand anymore. Most builds have the core they need with 4 links, many need 5 for their bread and butter, anything extra is just fluff and perks. Twohand would still benefit from an extra possible link and notably less mana consumption nevermind the other benefits of twohand. |

" yes, it's exactly what i had in mind. i don't understand all the "omg op op op" fuzz... people go around oneshotting mobs even without this hypothetical gem, so i don't see the problem. also, it's not a good idea to have an absurd dps, cause you will die of reflect, so: 1) MORE multipler 2) dropping skill to focus on just one 3) link gem drop rate would balance this. |
