New support gem: Link

my idea is a support gem that "links" the sockets of two (or maybe more) items to add more support gem to one ability.

to work you'll need a Link support gem for each item you want to link, so for example if you want to link together your gloves and boots, you'll need 2 Link gem and you will get a virtual 6 socket item (8-2 for the link gem).

i don't think that this would be op, because:
1) in order to make more powerful one ability you are losing sockets for other skills.
2) the mana cost multiplier will be applied to each Link gem (at least two), so the final mana cost will be huge.

Not OP at all!
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
i don't think cast when damaged produces multiple spells.

the link gem needs to take up two sockets and each character should only be able to use two of those gems

ex: the links stop working when the player puts a third link gem in his/her gear
OP as fuck. OMG, do people think before they post suggestions?

Thanks for the useful commentary. You are such a star child.
Now, onto more helpful posts: I think you should only be able to link it twice. Maybe give it the "More" mana, but only applies it once. (So it will require an EXTREMELY large mana pool, especially after the bonus linked gems..might not be best, but could be interesting.)
Inserting the Link Gem would generate a "Link-to" Gem, which you can then insert into the desired socket. The Link-to Gem would gain zero xp (ie. xp = 0/0, no level up)
It would have 5 levels, at each level it can link an additional socket. (The link-to gem can't be placed on a socket with more links than it can link, -1...because if you have a 2 link, then it really is a 1 link because one is used by the link to gem.)
Link a six socket two-handed weapon with a six socket chest piece. Not OP at all. Costs one gem from each piece for a total of two, to give you a maximum of ten linked sockets. DPS would skyrocket and PVP would not be viable for anyone NOT doing the ten link.

One of the worst suggestions I've seen yet.

To the guys saying it's a bad suggestion, what about taking into account if you require x mana for a 6 link, and you then make it a 10 link, it becomes sh*t tons times x = total mana cost per cast.
Add onto that my suggestion to make Link into a "More" mana cost, and you're REALLY going to have to spec into having enough mana to cast it once, which means you give up survivability, you give up straight up damage, you give up a lot.
Also take into account that there aren't many spells that can effectively gain much from linking with 10 supports.
More over, it's more of a convenience things. You don't need a 6 link now, you only need 2 4 links. This solves the problem of not having proper links to progress anywhere near merciless unless you grind the same area for hours to either accumulate enough wealth to buy something mediocre with 5 or 6 links, or pray to the RNGods for SOMETHING useful.
It's still a ton more efficient to get 6 links, and allows you to use more skills, but this means you don't have to downgrade stats for links.
