I think silence is plain wrong

Pulls out a knife and viciously cuts both your legs off, then breaks your arms with them.
Now, go run me a marathon; you have 4 minutes or I kill you.

Have I given you a challenge, or has what I just done fallen under "Broken and wrong"? One could argue it's a challenge, and you'd be illogical to be complaining that it's wrong/crying in pain. There is no curse that similarily effects attack oriented characters.

Well, I've surely lived through silence with a caster without a curse removal flask for multiple times so I fail to see the point of your comparison. And no, there's no similar curse for attack based characters but so what? There's no need to mirror everything for all character types to make game fair.

Is silence broken? No.

Is silence stupid? A matter of taste but it's something that quite traditionally happens to mages in fantasy games.

I dont even know how to answer this

If you cant see how dumb this curse is .... well, I dunno what else I can do.
In my full opinion, not withstanding my prior example. I think silence would be fine if there was enemies that ever actually casted it. The issue with silence is it's an issue that only impacts the player for 12 seconds if they happen to kill the enemy at the perfect time to get flipped off. However is silence was a more conistant theme throughout the game, people would get used to it and actually adjust quite quickly.

Just for example, imagine if dominus was the only enemy in the game that inflicted bleed. It would feel a lot more gimmicky to require a flask mod for one specific encounter when the flask mod is unneeded any other time. That's essentially what we have here with our silence mod. So don't nerf the curse, simply make it appear under more circumstances so that spellcasters have more reason to carry around an otherwise worthless affix*

*There is too many valuable flask effects for a curse removal flask to be worth carrying until late-maps.

I really like this curse. I don't like how the hexfont curses last so long though. It should be that they have a much shorter lifespan.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Is Hexfont really the only source of Silence? I thought there were monsters who curse you with it besides hexfonts.
Anyway, I like the idea of that curse. Ranged attackers (including casters) have some advantages over melee, what with not having to go near to kill the enemy.
There was much whining here on the forums how unfair that was. Now we have this shield mod and silence to put some sand into the gears of casters. It's not difficult to get rid of silence. Alternatively you can use something besides a SPELL to do damage, like a trap (does mine work?) or a dagger an viper strike on your off hand.
Like so many mechanisms in this game, silence is there to make you think at least a slight bit out of the box and not faceroll all and every bit of content.

Players hate any form of debuff. That's never going to change. Ever. So ignore this complaint please.

Negative. All traps are considered spells and get silenced, regardless of if they do spell damage :P
