Gamespot Review

I realized, im really happy about every success this game achieves.. it has goten my hart by how devs treat community, and obviously how insanely good the game is. Its in my heart side by side with Demon and Dark Souls.

KEEP ON FUCKING ROCKING

Wow Russell, it is sad for me to think that the only thing worth living for is PoE. You must have a life outside of work, don't you?

Here is the real link to the Gamespot PoE review (complete with a real link!):

WOW! I actually know how to use the URL function in the editor. Who'd a thunk it.

Kudos to GGG. The reviewer Kevin states "the awesome Path of Exile...". It's about time you got some acclaim.

The reviewer gave PoE a 9 out of 10 and his short 6 minute review is a 10 out of 10.

Now how about getting the cover of PC Gamer?

edit: Because PoE is a massively deep arpg it is impossible for any professional reviewer to do justice in a review in only a few days of playing so I'm very glad that the GameSpot Senior Editor took enough time to play PoE long enough to get past any superficial comparisons to D2 and reward GGG with a great review. Well done!

"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

I used to work for the biggest Nintendo website in europe, amongst other websites. I was never once told to score a game like this or take an attitude like that, because of outside influences.

Actually, I've never been in the "they take bribes!" camp. Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I worked as a reviewer and gaming journalist for a number of German print publications, and there was never any pressure to review a bad product positively. While there may be exceptions, I don't think sites are actually getting paid off. (There may be some psychological considerations and such, and a desire to get exclusive materials.)

The reason why I don't expect much from the commercial e-press is that many sites seem to be more about hits and appealing to the audience than reviewing all games by the same standards. The quality of commercial reviews is often inconsistent and the reader is better off finding a reviewer they agree with than focusing on a particular site (personally, I like all of Tom Chick's stuff, but he's also controversial).

My concern with Gamespot and PoE was that they might downrate the game because of its hardcore and old school elements. I'm glad they didn't and saw it for what it is: the victorious heir to the D2 throne.

Fair points, inconsistency is quite common on review sites. I was fairly young when I did my share of reviews etc so if I could look back on them now, I would probably find many flaws, including inconsistency. Often I was given an editor's role and I was reviewing between the ages of 15-17 so I wouldn't of said I was fully acomplished at this time. I did get to interview Randy Pitchford by email though =D I would say the most consistent reviews I have read are Edge Magazine (I'm from the UK, not sure if it is available elsewhere) who always lean on the critical side of the spectrum, rarely giving a coveted 10/10. Thus, when a game does score this highly, you know its probably worth checking out (or reading more reviews on).
Return to this flameless sunder
Where exiles burn and the joyless wander;
Frozen lore beneath chaotic thunder,
Dominus returns to send us under.
The reviewer for once was like us when we first discovered PoE... Like a little kid in toyland.
Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum - That's nature for you.
Just what this game and those devs deserve.
Amazed that gamespot can be fair sometimes ^^
