Some of the reasons Age of Conan failed so hard after 3 months

Some issues that existed in the game at launch, most were not fixed within 3 months, some still persist two years after release.

Periods of extreme lag from the servers (NZ/Aussie to US based servers do not help here).

Regular crashing of entire instances (fixed).

Memory leaks causing the client to crash (fixed but came back with the expac for some).

No DX10 support at realease as STATED ON THE BOX! (this took a year)

Ugly looking "potato sack" Armor from level 1 to level 80 (you have to do a raid to get anything decent looking).

Character balancing still an epic failure 2 years after release. Instead of tweaking stats and feats here and there, Funcom have done multiple and entire "revamps" of every class in the game. Over and over again. This has the effect of making one class after another, the new "OP" class for about 2 months, then they nerf. Then the next class, then they nerf. And the next, nerf..

This is aggravates and alienates the player base more than any other issue imo.

But most of all...

The devs simply did not listen to their customers, instead they would do the opposite.

I still feel hate for funcom and sadly I think I always will.

I hope this helps your game not to fail! :D
I played right from release and, although I did find it fun at first, the game became stale quickly.

I leveld my character to max very quickly and was surprised by how I could take out entire hordes without trouble. However, to get anything worth having, you had to raid. It was hard to find a good group and then the bugs often stopped the raid mid-way.

It was an ambitious, but failed game. Only the die-hards play now. When the game went "free-to-play", it was a true sign that they were desperate.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a free-to-play game if it was designed to be that way from the start, but AoC was not.

Every effort cannot be a gem, but I think PoE will be!

take care,

No end game, bugged end game did it for me and my guild.
FunCom charged me for two months after I cancelled my AoC sub, still haven't forgiven them for that.

That's one reason I do like the F2P games with micro's provided its not a " I have more money I win" thing like a few F2P's do. Cosmetic changes, level enhancers (for alts especially) and small non game breaking items will be fine. I just dont wanna get ganked by a spoiled rich kid who uses mommy and daddy's money to play Billy-Bad-Ass online.

I don't wanna be irritating..but this doesn't belong in the General Discussion. In fact..it belongs to the Off Topic. Just wanted to point that out.
Your mind is your enemy. Your mind will make you insane sooner or later. As for me..well, you can say that I am.

you also forgot No in game economie what so ever at launch and even after 6 months.

item stats didnt do anything to improve your char strenght, at least at launch. i know they wanted to fix it after 6month / a year after. i was gone anyway.

too bad because that game was fun and if they added more polish to it b4 release it would had been a great game.
Yeah, i think the lack of content had a great impact over the game in the long run. I remember playing the game and at whatever level range i would be i'd have 2 sometimes 3 zones where i could go around; the game didn't give you a lot of freedom.

There's too less pvp, i now play on aquilonia (or whatever it's called) and i can't remember the last time i had a pvp match.

And i don't know, there's a lot of stuff that brought age of conan down. Too bad though cuz it was a great game, i personally loved the quest system, you didn't have to read the whole text you could just listen to it (whenever the case).

Grinding was atrocious. Not enough quests so you were forced to get into groups and just kill massive amounts of mobs.
Playing AoC was actually one of the funnest gaming experiences I've had. Crashes and bugs aside, it was a promising game and I enjoyed the kind of community and drama that surrounded the idea of having open PvP. I always found myself on edge when doing anything on the game, keeping an eye out for players I knew to avoid, or players I enjoyed to battle. It was different than having 2 set factions because you never really knew what someone's intentions were, which added a lot of unknown factors to the game that were in fact very fun for me.

What killed this game for me was that a certain point in the game, there was only around 2-3 quests available per level, so you had to grind a lot of XP once you got up high, which took forever. If they had spent another 6 months or so preparing this game, I think without a doubt it would still be going pretty strong today.

Yeah, AoC was pretty fun. Now that it has went F2P it has really opened up the community.
