Endurance Charges

This might sound like a dumb question, but what exactly do endurance charges do? And how do you get them?
They basically grant resistances to physical and elemental damage, as well as some life regen.

You can get up to 3 endurance charges by default, with more from passives or items.

You gain them either by using the skill Enduring Cry or killing things cursed with Warlord's Mark, there is at least one unique item I know of that also grants endurance charges when you get critically hit.

They can also be gained from a party members with Conduit, an ability that allows a party member to share gained charges.

Also, wrong place to ask about this, this thread should probably be moved.
How would it be the wrong place? I wouldn't imagine it would fit in anywhere else to be honest?

But your post does answer a lot of my questions, thanks for taking the time to answer them!

right on everything but the elemental damg. like armor, endurance charges only reduce phys. damg. every charge gives u an 5% damg reduction added to your armor reduction already.

Yeah, No.

It does grant resistance to elemental damage.
How long do endurance charges last? Is there a timer or do they stay around until they're expended?
10 seconds, up to 14 seconds with passives that increase the duration of charges.

For each endurance charge you get 5% increased resistance to all elements, and 5% increased resistance to physical damage. This is applied on top of your damage reduction from armor, so if you have enough armor to reduce an attack by 30%, and you have 6 endurance charges, it would be 30 + (6*5) = 60% physical damage reduction.

Don't mean to be an ass or get OT, but please don't promote the usage of the listed DR for an understanding of the actual DR.

People read 90% DR from the defense stats and think 90% of any hit (sometimes assuming elemental and chaos resistance) is resisted, which is not the case.

Endurance charges will always add 5*(number of charges) resists on top of the actual DR, capped. It's constant, it's just stacked on top of armour. But with the way the mechanics work, it ends up having more value, the more armour you have, up to a point. Having 0 armour with endurance charges means you're probably not "exploiting" it enough.

The rest you should probably find out from mechanics threads.
who brought up the defense stats?

True enough, you only said reduction from armour.
