Path of Chests - Chest Opening Simulator 2013

Joke title aside, i feel that there are far too many chest laying around Wraeclast for its own good :) Both from a gameplay and immersion perspective, it just doesnt make sense. Who went around dropping their chests everywhere? And why havent they been looted until you come across them? Clearly they have been laying there for years. I think it would be better to make the cests more scarce but increase the droprate slightly to keep the current balance. Also change some of the chests to fit the environment more, like a bunch of twigs or a plank that is hiding the loot.

Is this something that is planned to be looked at in the future or will it stay like this? :)

Suggestion 1: Half of the early chests, should be renamed "trunks".
A player will see a chest and be like "Oh! A chest! It contains treasure!" and then open it and it will be empty. Path of Exile will teach players that a chest is simply a place where people put their candles, ropes, sweaters, linen, and so on. There's rarely anything useful in them even in Act 2, because by the time they start dropping magical items, you're looking for rares anyway. I only loot them for the scrolls.

Suggestion 2: At least half of the rocks in nature settings, should be replaced by tree trunks.
"A rock! Let's move it! You find NOTHING under the rock!" Then why are you looking under big rocks in the first place? Trunks would have been more likely to contain something useful.
Well who left all the coins floating in mid air in super mario world? Let's not kid ourselves, this is a game about strategy and collecting loot. So to me there is nothing wrong with loot being all over the place. In fact, drenching the screen in potential hiding spots for loot creates an environment where diligence is rewarded, while those who rush through maps just to get to bosses will miss out on a lot of good items. The number of chests gives you a reason to explore a map even in parties where someone else has scouted out the exit. There is still a reason to check the fog of war to look for the plentiful hiding spots for loot.

But they don't even contain loot. A lot of them are empty, and most of them just contain non-magical items. They look like they contain valuables, but 99% of them are just disappointments.

Also, if you're going to pretend like realism hasn't changed over the years, or from genre to genre, then why don't we put more dots in the game, like in Pacman? We can put ghosts in there too, that we can eat after we've eaten a BIG dot.
3 of the exalts I've found have cone from chests.

Diligence is rewarded.

But the thing is, you literally walk into the chests by not even trying. There is no diligence because you dont even need to try. There are no "hiding spots" because they are not hidden. What you are decribing is actually what i WANT the chests to be like, but they are not. They are sprinkled across each map which makes it no fun or rewarding. If they were fewer and actually made people focus on searching and finding them, then it would be much better.

Yes, if you look through a thousand chests of basically worthless stuff, you will get 3 of them. Was it fun to open all those chests? ...or would you rather just open 500 chests instead, that was twice as rare to find?
Which is why you don't have to look through all the chests. It becomes a calculated risk as to whether or not you want to open everything you find or not. But the way that things are set now will give the more diligent player the oppurtunity to be rewarded. Those who think that opening all chests is too much work, have the option of skipping them without missing out on too much. I think it's a fine balance allowing methodical chest openers the chance to distinguish themselves from those who like to charge through maps to kill bosses.

What do you mean by "calculated risk"? Are you talking about combing through the entire level, or simply opening a chest? ...because combing through the whole level will not reward you. It will just be more monsters and more chests, that you would be getting on the next level as well, only with better monsters and better chests. If you can live through it, rushing pays off, as long as you open the nearest chests.
Chest numbers are fine.
