[Question] Cosmetics - Tradable???

Once the cosmetics in micro-transactions come, will they be tradable in game?
Cosmetics are essentially real money manifested in game. If they're tradeable, then our economy would get ***ked. My guess is no.
I consider it highly unlikely.

Do consider though, that EVE online has a similar system. You can purchase "subscription items" to sell at the marketplace. This effectively allows anyone to play EVE Online for free, because they can convert currency into subscription time. For that kind of MMO, this really hurts gold farmers and helps keep the economy's inflation in order.

If illegal trade were to become a problem, with widespread real money use to gain wealth in POE, I could see "sanctioned" real-money cosmetic item trades being an effective manner to curb this.

But outside of that, I would hazard a no - and that's a good thing. If it comes to allowing that sort of thing, then there's a pretty big problem.

How? Does it matter if I buy a cosmetic thingy and use it myself, or if I buy a cosmetic thingy and hand it to you? Either way, GGG are making money on it. What do they care who of us pays for the thing, as long as the thing is paid for? And as for the economy in-game, I really don't see what the big deal is.

Well unfortunately there is a difference, and for those who chose the game for its anti 'pay to win' feature, it matters a lot.

When you convert a game object from being RL currency non-valued to having a RL currency value and giving it in-game trade potential, you effectively allow other people with more money to buy MTS items and trade for high value non-MTS items.

However, there might be a way to allow people to trade MTS for MTS only. Even still, there might be other possibilities which could be pursued in the future.

I recall discussing this briefly with Chris a while back and we seemed to very quickly reach the same conclusion. No.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
Tradeable cosmetics are not as bad as direct purchasing currency/etc, but still clearly p2w.

Personally, im glad GGG has been very firm in their no P2W attitude. I mean my god kids, back in the day, i couldnt whip out the bonds and savings plan, cash it in, and buy some extra Mario or Luigi lives. Fuck no son, we actually had to go to World 3-1 and bounce on that crazy turtle shell just right to amass our men.

Such a sad state of gaming today, its really refreshing to see a real game company making real games for once.

Keep it up GGG.
GGG - Why you no?
However, if you take STEAM TRADING for Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2 as an example. You'll see that making cosmetic items tradeable actually increases sales.

Its the tactic where they make some rare items purchasable and others found in game only. when it comes to trading, people who want non-buyable items from inside the game are willing to forgo the effort and simply buy CASH ONLY goods, and trade them with players who spent hours killing.

Diablo 3 on the other hand, having no cash items, chooses instead to rely on selling virtual items for cash, earning a percentage for every transaction, a percentage for another withdrawing it into real money or using the money to buy other blizzard games.

Either model, i think that CASH ONLY items are not the way to go. I'm quite good in economics and I tell you that the moment people find out there are EXCLUSIVE CASH ITEMS, people tend NOT to buy them, but if it is tradeable, people will tend to buy them instead and think its ok. Ex: Dota2 Keys and Crates

Compare it with the likes of League of Legends which sells skins just like that, and you probably get what I mean. =)

Either way, I'm gonna buy my supporter duck soon. Happy Talking with you guys, see you in the game!
You Only Die Once
Yeah... but dota 2, and TF2 Does not have items that are tradeable.. that mess with the actual game.. There is no way to trade a item in Dota 2, for in game currency or something of the likes. It is purely cosmetic to cosmetic
