About PoE and going solo

Now I know how to link gear.

Here it is what I have so far:

And my skill tree:

What do you think?

Thanks!
For leveling you need Life and Resists on gear.
Life can't proc on weapons, though.

You need 70+% lightning res before entering Vaal room.
I don't think anyone can 100% evade laser.
You have like 13% lightning resist? Vaal is going to eat you with the lightning beam. Get that resist to ~70 and he's pretty easy if you avoid his Vaal SMASH!!!. But I must say, your gear is subpar.

I tried to kill Vaal like 5 times and I couldnt (I have a level 33 Shadow), so I had to create a party just to find people help me kill it.

I don't know if the problem is that my character is not powerfull enough (or maybe it is just a terrible build), or if the problem is that, in fact, PoE is very not well designed for solo players (I am playing in normal difficulty)

The first part, not the latter.
It's perfectly soloable. I use the online only simple for trading. I never group, and Vaal isn't hard. At all.

This.
You can't run a boss that requires lightning resist, with no lightning resist...then QQ about getting powned.

The need for life and resists doesn't stop at any point. ( unless you're CI, or glass cannon MF.....but ya)

My experience with soloing on hardcore has been pretty good so far. I find bosses to be the only major problem, but there are ways to exercise caution and take them out... although it takes time.

I suggest doing full map clears, and revisiting smaller maps with bosses like "The Ledge" to accumulate experience and levels.. best way to ride solo safely and actually have the tools to deal with some of the harder areas.
I have played my marauder solo and have just finished cruel last night..
I like the bosses being hard, but i really like the fact that the bosses are all different and make you rearrange your gems and gear, and makes you think about which flasks to use for the fight...
First time i ever met Dominus was last night and he took me an hour to work out how to kill him and a few deaths in the process....
All my gear is self found or self made....mainly due to the fact i have never been a lover of trading and i dont really understand the currency and never know what anything is actually worth, so i fend for myself....
Been here since Open Beta.
Lightning resistance! Of course! Lol!

Guess I still have a lot to study yet.

I am still trying to understand the gems and skills mechanics. But I guess I still need like 3 or 4 or 5 builds more.

Question: Every character has its own stash, or the stash is common to all characters?

Thanks!
I solo exclusively all the way to maps and one thing that really helps in the early game (act 2+) is making sure you have sets of resist rings for each element and swapping gear accordingly for different encounters. For vaal, you only need lightning resist. The big boot has fire/physical, but if you get hit by that you're dead anyways so it doesn't matter. Learn the attack patterns and grind away at the bosses if you're a bit weak.
I play mostly solo because my girlfriend interrupts me constantly, so I find myself frequently opening portals.

The stash is common to all characters of the same league.
