what you're missing is that a higher level monster will absolutely NOT give you the same FCT as another monster, so you absolutely cannot gauge the change to equipment based off of the amount you're doing to one monster. if i hit a level 50 magic monster, with his evasion and armor, it's going to give me "XXX damage" if i then immediately hit a level 50 rare monster, that FCT will not be the same approximate number. the only reliable source for damage increase is the tooltip, which gives you your damage per second. This calculation is, of course, specific to a monster at the same level as you are, but you also have no other idea what amounts of armor or evasion other monsters have, so you can't get an exact number from FCT. a majority of people can say that they're typically over leveled, so you currently see your worst-case scenario, and are always better than what you currently see, unless you're really in a zone that is actually your level (i haven't been in that case for ~10 characters - i'm always a few/the highest level to still get 100% XP) is the next request to know what armor monsters have when you hover over them? what about seeing a monster's damage when you hover over them? is that also going to be a request? I get that you like FCT, but have you played this game? do you think you'll be able to actually see that number somehow among the flashes and graphics that already completely obscure my view, I just can't ever see this being an option that you'd even be able to use it. not to mention that removing ALL estimating in the game becomes a complete buzz-kill - the obscurity of the game is what attracts the current crowd - not knowing exact things is what gives the game its soul! sure, you can turn it on, but if you're trying to use it as a tool, how useful will it really be? how about just an actual damage log, that you can open up the chat and type /damage and it will list your last 100 hits values? I really only care about my DPS, not individual hits. have you not seen how fast one can attack if they choose to spec that way? i'm talking over 10APS, how the heck can 10 FCT numbers be legible with that? if someone can hit once and do 1000 damage in 1 second, does that make any difference that his party member can only do 100 damage, but strikes 15 times in the same amount of time? the faster hitter is the better damage dealer - it's obvious from his DPS which is on his tool tip. There are floating numbers
when you hit monsters is this what you mean? Go to options and turn it on. The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

Okay, but usually when your character grows stronger he will deal higher damage than what he was in level 1. For instance, in WoW at level 60 you will deal like 650-1100-ish damage per hit to Illidan compared to 1 digit damage when you are killing a boar at level 1. Even though Illidan is stronger than that boar, still your FCT shows higher damage than when you kill that boar at level 1.

I would love to see floating combat text. Even if GGG doesn't like it, it could still be an option for those that do. Then everyone is satisfied. :)
Simply make it off by default, that way there isn't any change to those who do not want it. |

hell no!
