Can we talk frankly about pants?
I think it's fair to say that the pantsless look of three out of the six classes in the game is one of the most common points of criticism, and while it's arguably an unimportant issue, the fact remains that this IS an issue for a significant number of players. Discussion of pants is usually shut down by the assertion that they should be a cash shop purchase, and most players seem content to leave it at that. I'm not. I think it would be helpful for EVERYONE to consider the following questions:
1. Do you feel that GGG has succeeded with the Greco-Roman aesthetic that they seem to be shooting for with these three characters? In other words, do the characters look fully-clothed in that style, or do they simply look like generic fantasy characters who've forgotten to put on pants? 2. Would you be willing to pay real money in the cash shop for character skins with simple, unornamented leg coverings and no other changes, particularly with no gameplay benefit? If so, would you pay per character? How much would you be willing to pay? 3. Suppose GGG was able to lengthen the kilt/skirt area similar to this: http://i.imgur.com/TqnIO.jpg. Would you think it was fair for GGG to charge for this particular improvement? 4. How do you think it would reflect on PoE if the gaming press got wind of the fact that GGG expected players to pay extra for pants, given the popular criticism that three of the six classes appear half naked otherwise? How would you compare this situation to Oblivion's horse armor debacle? Do you think it would make a difference to outside eyes if purchaseable character skins were significantly cooler overall, but many players were clearly only interested in them for the pants? 5. Would you rather everyone shut up about pants? A simple "5. Yes" is sufficient. I promise that I will personally never post about pants again if most people feel this way. Thanks for reading. It's more old school/hardcore to play a character that doesn't use pants.
If you have to pay more money to get such a casual feature as 'pants'... I fail to see how the 'gaming press' could make this an issue. This game is for hardcore players. If you really want pants, go play World of Warcraft! Don't nerf the lack of pants. It also seems kind of sexist to me that the kilt/skirt/loincloth-thing Templar/Marauder wear are "too short" but many players would be fine with such a length on a female character. If they add pants, when they add genderswap options down the road, wouldn't you want no pants anyway? I wonder what the female Marauder would look like! " What do pants have to do with being a casual or hardcore player? What are you talking about? " I think a female marauder or templar would look every bit as silly in the existing armor sets. People seem to complain just as much about pantsless witches as they do about the other classes. I don't think this issue has anything to do with sex appeal. " I thought I'd originally posted that pic in a thread that was started by someone else, but I guess I remembered wrong. In any case, this is a better subforum for this discussion and that thread looks like it was immediately derailed by trolls. I was really hoping the forumgoers here could have a mature discussion for once. I'd like answers to the questions I posted. Actually, to me they look like generic fantasy characters who forgot to put on their cloaks, not their pants.
I don't see any horse armor issues if GGG puts pants in the store. The store is billed as a cosmetic-only store. The reason horse armor caught so much flak was because it was being sold alongside much more useful DLC. As far as length, with the fixed, top-down camera it's not enough of an issue for me to even vaguely consider paying for longer armor. |

Oblivion cost $60 to play. PoE costs $0. So any comparison of oblivion DLC to PoE cash shop items doesn't really make sense.
The only thing GGG could do wrong imo would be selling pants in the cash shop that do give any gameplay advantage. Aside from that.. However they want to handle it is fine by me. .. 5. Even though I find the pants discussion rather pointless, I would rather read a dozen more of these threads than one more complaint about FFA. 1. Yes
2. No 3. No 4. Ain't gonna happen 5. Hell no, pants are uncool and we should rail upon them incessantly. I'd pay for a good costume/look that includes pants, but not just pants in particular. Also, I'd pay for Bermudas on my shadow. |

" I see what you did there...I hope. Regarding pants I don't really care that they aren't an item slot but it does seem strange that GGG designers would implement armors that look like they are lacking pants so badly. Even your simple photoshop looks better. |

It's really hot in Wraeclast. The Ranger is very uncomfortable and wishes she'd left her pants in town.

I personally don't mind how the pants-less characters look, but it would be nice if each character got two or three "base" skins you could choose from.
First reason being, the people who complain about the lack of pants wouldn't have to spend money for a pair, and the second, if each character got different skins, I could finally have a duelist without that god-awful red shirt. |
