How to handle botters

"
Map/fellshrine splitters split a map saying, "You take that half of the map's boosted XP and IIQ, I take the other." They do this because its just not worth it to stay as a group.
I hope that's not the reason they nerfed party loot drops in 0.9.12w
offline

Find all those bots and each srver restart send them to cut throat league :D
Playing POE since 0.9.0

I'd support something like a level requirement for entry into the eternal lab, but really, 56 is too high. It's not impossible to get to the eternal lab before you even hit 50 (in hardcore)

I think that goes against GGGs believes, I cant find the exact quote,

"
Step one alone would be a big soft-fix for the issue of lvl 1 XP boosters (at least in hardcore) which taint the ladder currently. The players using them are publicly pressing to have them fixed by using them, but as GGG has said in-game, until they change their policy it is legal.

They would need to fix the shitty party system first.
And have you even used a level one? they give barley any extra exp. Maybe like 1-2% to a 70 on a lvl 60 map.

I use the level one because I'm tired of the shitty loot system. Im not saying solo loot is the issue. The group loot is the issue. No rares drop in my name and when they do my party members grab it first because I'm to busy keeping them alive and killing mobs. And please dont reply with "find others to party with" half assed answers like that never solve shit.

"
Step 2: Characters must be within a screen or two of each-other in order to trigger the bigger XP and IIQ gain from slain monsters in a party. Irregardless of player location monsters are still buffed.

^This I agree with

I did about 3 or so maps with a buddies 3 boosters in them, the XP is ridiculous, I never really care about drops, as the people I play with (me included) are all cool and hand over items if other people really need them and they don't.

Unless its Metro, then all bets are off, he steals everyone's orbs! :O

I do NOT go in public parties unless people fully agree to a -my name my item, your name your item- deal, so yeah, I can't comment really only public loot issues. :(

Software will never be the solution to botting, bots can emulate any behavior which people do, and do it in such a way which is undetectable (some bots are actually Chinese sweatshops). Rather than start an arms race with bot detection software and bot sophistication, we need to remove the reasons people use bots.

The reasons vary, and there are many solutions to each, and I'm sure GGG has thought about many of these ideas. The main way to generally resist any cheating in the game would be to simply make it too fun on its own.

If going afk for hours and missing out on leveling is more fun than playing it, something is wrong with leveling.

If bots are farming for equipment and orbs, the demand for these is probably too high, and there needs to be a buff to those drops.

The same ideas which prevent botting would also increase the enjoyment of people who would otherwise be forced into bot-like behavior.

You cant make it that much fun, that some people would not cry (and act) for even more, nevertheless...

Sounds nice, but the demand will (and have to, and will be) always higher than the 'stock'. If the availability is raised, only their values drop, and maybe even good crafted items get rolled further to become even better.

Well my idea is that nearly everyone who would consider paying 3rd parties for farming services or risk banned IPs and character deletion would quickly dismiss it if there were enough fun ways to work towards a goal rather than take the shortcut.

Motivations vary for players, and I'm not saying everyone will be satisfied doing things legitimately, but there should always be negative pressure to doing so, instead of driving them to buy malware infested farmbots, they should ease up on the difficulty curve at some points, and have a variety of ways to achieve their goals. I find that the league races are a perfect example of how GGG has alternative ways to winning treasure, while endless grinding fellshrine seems to be fine for others.

Some people will be determined. Some to cheat the system some to cheat themselves. They might not like the challenge and reward of the game, or they might find new challenge in breaking the game. These people will not be deterred by memory fingerprinting or file checksums, these people will collaborate on shady web forums to test their brilliant code shenanigans and they will always be watching for the holes to exploit. Technology can't stop them, nor people who could use their discoveries. Identifying motives for wanting such exploits is the only way to stop a majority of the the rule violations, and so we have the "fun" factor to discourage such behavior.

Its a direct hard hand against boosters and map/fellshrine splitters.

It doesnt help, if booster are bots, they can follow you within reasonable distance

GGG made the PoE executable so that multiple copies could run on one machine simultaneously.

Could that imply they consider botting one of the "acceptable exploits"?

I like the idea of a public hanging.

However, I'd be more apt to prefer defenestration
of said botters. Bunch of worthless reprobate varlets.
